Your fact of the day for today, April 12th...

The Statue of Liberty used to be a lighthouse. About a month after the statues dedication in 1886 it became a working lighthouse for 16 years, with its torch visible from about 24 miles away.

Wonder what the French would think about this...your fact of the day for today, April 13th...

Before toilet paper was invented, Americans used to use corn cobs (and I don’t want to know how...) Alternatively, they’d use periodicals, like the Farmers Almanac, which was designed with a hole so it could be hung in outhouses....

If they couldn't afford the Farmers Almanac, they used a small piece of cloth again and again. They had it tough in them days.
    Thank you Ralph.

Your fact of the day for today, April 15th (Tax Day, Jackie Robinson Day and Titanic Remembrance Day)...

Since I already did a Jackie Fact on his birthday, let’s go with the Titanic...

The day the Titanic sank (April 15th, 1912) there was supposed to be a lifeboat drill. No one knows why Captain Edward John Smith called it off.

Speaking of lifeboats, Titanic Bonus facts: The ship was equipped to hold 64 lifeboats, but it only departed with 20. Also, when the ship started sinking, 28 people left on the first lifeboat. It’s capacity was 65.

Your fact of the day for today, April 16th...

    Let’s continue with the Titanic...

Only three of the four smoke stacks on the Titanic were actually functional. The extra one was to make the ship look more impressive.

And your Titanic bonus fact for today...

The 100ft chunk of ice that sunk the Titanic was traced back to a glacier in Greenland.
