So i havent collected ball cards in a long time and recently my daughter has wanted to start collecting which of coarse made me want to start to collect again. So like any person i searched online and on the facebook marketplace looking for deals. Found a guy on the App LetGo that was selling a bunch of commons and stars pretty cheap. Since my daughter wants to start collecting i figured id get them and we could start completing sets. Among these cards was this one. Im pretty sure its a fake but the curiosity in me has to ask and wonder. Ive never dealt with really old cards and never seen any until this one and what i have seen online. But half the fake ones look real and even some of the real ones look fake lol. So basically just looking at some input on the card at hand here and opinions and maybe some pointers for future finds and what to look for. Anything is appreciated. Thank you very much.

The odds of finding a real treasure like that (or an authentic painting by a master or collectors automobile or any other rare and expensive collectible) is akin to winning the lottery. it COULD (and does) happen in rare instances, but you aren't going to walk into an auto or art dealer dealer and find a steal, much the same way you won't find a rare baseball card being sold cheap by someone selling cards.

When it does seem to happen, it is usually someone cleaning out an attic or garage for a relative and the gem has been long lost in there for decades. Read about the somewhat recent Ty Cobb find, for example.

It's also hard to know for sure by simply looking at a 2D image online. Knowledge of the look, feel and sometimes even smell of older cards helps immensely in determining if one you have is fake or real.

Odds are pretty much not in your favor that there is even a slight chance that card is real, but miracles do happen. Have it looked over by someone who knows cards before tossing it aside as fake and don't be a Jason Mars (google that as well if you want some entertainment).

I completely agree with you lol. In all honesty I do know it's a fake. There really is no place around me without driving 5 hours to have it looked at.There is no way a card like that just gets sold for 50 bucks along with a bunch of other cards. It is a nice looking reprint of it. And I never knew about that Jason Mars guy. The comments on everything is freaking hilarious. I kinda feel bad for him at the same time hahaha.

The best thing to do is to learn all you can about pre-war cards before you jump into buying anything. Join this forum http://net54baseball.com/. A lot of the people on that forum have been collecting pre-war cars for ever and are for the most part happy to help people starting to collect pre-war cards. Some of the members there have even written books on vintage cards.

Here two books on Amazon that will help
