The Mariners are off to a strong start this season, winning 9 of their first 11 and posting an eight-run sixth to take a 12-4 lead tonight. The Mariners brought in a bunch of big name veterans like Edwin Encarnacion, who they were expected to trade away for more youth. Seattle may decide to see how long they can keep winning with their current lineup.

12-2

Mariners homered for the 14th game in a row as Mitch Haniger went with an outside fastball to drive it into the right field bullpen. Roenis Elias pitched a scoreless ninth to pick up his second career save, retiring Adalberto Mondesi with the bases loaded.

I don't want to pee in the punch bowl here but do we really think they are going to slug enough to mask the mediocre, at best, pitching? It is a fun story and barring injuries they will probably hit a lot of homers but the staff and bullpen are weak sauce. Houston and even Oakland will certainly surpass them soon enough.... right?

Domingo Santana almost cost them the win tonight. Horrific left fielder. Servais should have put in a defensive replacement in the bottom of the ninth.

Since their 13-2 start, the Mariners have gone a mind numbing 11-32. At least now it's clear that they should sell off their expensive veterans before the trading deadline.
