1952 Reprint Set
The first of several reprint/
retro sets in different
sports issued by Topps, the
402-card reprinting of its classic
1952 baseball card set was
controversial at the time of issue,
but has since gained hobby
acceptance and market
value. To avoid possible confusion
of the reprints for originals,
the reprints were done
in the now-standard 2-1/2" x
3-1/2" format instead of the
original 2-5/8" x 3-3/4". Backs,
printed in red, carry a line
“Topps 1952 Reprint Series”
at bottom, though there is no
indication of the year of reprinting.
Fronts have a semigloss
finish, which also differs
from the originals. Because of
inability to come to terms with
five of the players from the
original 1952 Topps set, they
were not included in the reprint
series. Those cards
which weren’t issued are: #20
Billy Loes, #22 Dom DiMaggio,
#159 Saul Rogovin, #196
Solly Hemus, and #289
Tommy Holmes. The ’52 reprints
were available only as a
complete boxed set with a retail
price of about $40 at issue.

Common Player: .25
Minor Stars: .50
Typical Hall of Famers: 2.00
Superstar Hall of Famers: 8.00

Out of all of the reprint sets Topps did in the 80s/90s, this was the earliest and best of the bunch. I don't imagine there is great demand to most people for a partial set though. The complete set and perhaps complete team sets or major stars would probably draw the most interest. I'd be surprised to see anyone actually forking out $2 for HOFers like Dick Williams or Hoyt Wilhelm, but maybe guys like Robinson, Mays & Mantle.

I appreciate your info. I think I will try team sets as I have came across 106 more.
