They could be one in the same, but I was wondering what everyone thought about this. Pictures of any I didn't share are a plus.
(1) What is the BEST Hostess panel of all time, meaning the one that has the best player combination, in your opinion?
(2) What is YOUR favorite Hostess panel?
The 1976 design is my favorite and I favor the Garvey card out of all of them. Garvey had cards in 1975, 76, 77 & 79.
But my favorite panel has always been the 77 Yount Garvey Brett panel. 77 was a year that had some great panels. Imagine if this panel had been from 1975 though!!
As far as the best panel, that is a tough call for me. The easy answer could be my favorite panel and it is definitely a contender, but one could argue that the best panel will have all 3 players represented by stars. You could also argue that a key RC, even if he is paired with commons, might get the nod.
There are a couple more 77 panels besides Garvey that feature 2 and even 3 HOFers.
75 has a nice SP with the Yount RC and potential future HOFer Al Oliver.
The 76 panels have that bicentennial all-american look and this is a great panel with now 2 HOFers and 1 that could be someday (another Oliver sighting)
In fact, Oliver has what is probably the best Hostess panel run in my opinion, 3 consecutive great panels 1975-77 and the 77 he shares with 2 more HOFers Winfield & Schmidt.
Because I also collect Oliver to a lesser extent, he was featured once more in 1979 but didn't get the supporting cast he was used to:
My choice though for best panel, strictly from a star power factor, would be this 1979 panel, with 2 HOFers, including a key RC:
The Ozzie RC gets paired with Nolan Ryan in 1979. Montanez is a filler in this case, but still an amazing panel.
This is such a great run of cards. A handful of star rookie year cards helps too. Honorable mention to the Eddie Murray and Dennis Eckersley RCs. Of course, remembering these cards as a kid (with Twinkies, Ding Dongs & HoHo's to go along with them) helps make them standout more. If only my mom had bought us more Hostess snacks back then.
