The Carolina on the Southern side
Justin Verlander
14-8, 3.38 ERA (3.84 FIP) 208 K, 1.18 WHIP (6.1 WAR)

AL Ranks: 2nd in IP, 3rd in bWAR, 5th in strikeouts, 6th in fWAR, 7th in ERA, 7th in WHIP, 8th in FIP & 8th in wins.

I figure the AL Cy Young top 5 voting will finish:
1a. Corey Kluber
1b. Chris Sale
3. Luis Severino
4. Carlos Carrasco
5. Justin Verlander

I have yet to determine between the top 2 pitchers who wins. Honestly, it could go either way depending on how you view their stats (traditional: Kluber or advanced: Sale). They could even be co-Cy Young winners.
Verlander & Carrasco could switch places depending on how their final starts go.

With the 300Ks, I think Sale will win it.

One might think but Kershaw only finished 3rd when he put up 300 k's.

I actually put up a poll regarding the AL Cy Young a week ago:

http://www.freedomcardboard.com/for...3-2017-AL-Cy-Young-Chris-Sale-or-Corey-Kluber

This is how they match up:

Chris Sale
17-7, 2.75 ERA (2.22 FIP) 300 K, 0.95 WHIP
209.1 IP, 7.32 K:B 12.9 K/9 [8.2 fWAR 6.2 bWAR]

Corey Kluber
17-4, 2.35 ERA (2.49 FIP) 252 K, 0.85 WHIP
191.2 IP, 7.41 K:BB 11.8 K/9 [6.9 fWAR 7.7 bWAR]

Kluber is leading in most of the major traditional categories (ERA, WHIP, win%) with the exception of strikeouts which Sale owns. Sale also has the superior FIP. Each of them lead the AL in one of the two WAR variations (Fangraphs = Sale/Baseball Reference = Kluber)

I actually think Kluber has the slight advantage because the Indians historic win streak is going to be fresh on the voters mind in which Kluber had a lot to do with. Voters also love ERA (but then again, they also like strikeouts)

Looooooosiana!
They are both deserving, so I won't be pulling out any torches as long as it goes to one of them. The Astros typically destroy Kluber, so that is another reason I tend to put Sale over Kluber. Biased because of the out-of-career-context games I have watched him struggle in.

Looking at his splits from the last 4 years it appears the Astros, Angels & Rangers are the teams he's struggled against the most (4+ ERA against LAA, TEX & 3.70 ERA against HOU). Looks like he has issues against the West

Big JV has officially won all 5 games he has started for the Astros! He's an easy top 5 Cy Young candidate in my mind.

15-8, 3.36 ERA (3.84 FIP) 219 SO, 1.17 WHIP
206 IP, 3.04 K/BB 9.6 K/9 .221 BAA (6.3 WAR)

Top 10 AL Stats
2nd in WAR (6.3)
3rd in IP (206.0)
4th in BAA (.221)
5th in SO (219)
6th in ERA (3.36)
7th in WHIP (1.17)
7th in K/9 (9.6)
8th in Wins (15)
8th in FIP (3.84)

He won't win the CYA but I'm definitely loving him in an Astros uniform!

Not a chance of winning it. After Sale's recent implosion this is how I predict the top 5 to look:
1. Kluber
2. Sale
3. Severino
4a. Verlander
4b. Carrasco
Whether he finishes 4th or 5th depends on how Carrasco pitches in his final game.

Stroman & Santana will also get some votes. So will a couple of the top relief pitchers like Kimbrel, etc.

It's too bad Keuchel didn't miss close to 10 starts this season because I remember earlier in the season when it was looking like it was his to lose this year. Even with less than 150 IP it's possible he could garner a few 5th place votes.
