2005 Studio Portraits cards

I just purchased a load of these cards to help some of you guys out. Please keep an eye out for me for Bo Jackson and Frank Thomas cards at your local shops, with other trading friends, etc. I'll let you know what I got when they arrive (you know how some sellers like to list cards they've already sold, so I don't want to get anyone's hopes up unnecessarily). I'll keep selling as long as I can avoid taking a loss (possibly even make a small profit to buy Bo & Frank cards with), but would much rather trade if at all possible for FT & BJ.

PS. I deleted my Trade list of these cards. It's too long to accurately keep up with since I have over 270 at last count (and more on the way), not including recent trades/sales.

I have come to a decision. Since I am always looking for (i.e., buying) these cards, and it's one of my favorite sets of all times (albeit a pain in the rear to assemble a complete 56-card player set), I am going to start a Personal Collection of about 30-35 of the players in this set. However, I am only going to try to complete a type set (8 frontal variations) of each, with the best #1/XX, Jersey#/XX, #XX/XX, and the lowest serial numbers I can afford of each. I want to have "the bomb" of a PC in this set. That does not mean I won't help everyone find the cards they need, but it may preclude me from giving up a card until I can find a replacement or get offered an equivalent Bo or Frank card to pry the card from my PC.

WOW! I just added up the costs of the cards I've purchased over the past few years in this set and I have over $750 invested. I know, I'm crazy, but I always hoped these cards could eventually be used to get Bo and/or Frank Thomas cards. Now, they'll give me some added enjoyment as I put together these "Type Sets". Some players will definitely be more challenging/expensive (Griffey Jr., Mattingly, Pujols, Schmidt, Maddux, Ryan, Jeter, Johnson, Brett, etc.), but there's no hurry. And, now that I found this awesome trade site (with you great guys/gals), this will be my new quest.

Comments? Which players would you collect type sets in this 2005 SP set if you were me?

If I were you, then I wouldn't want to collect Mike Schmidt, Steve Carlton, or Jim Thome because I know that another collector already wants to corner the market on them.... ;-)

Seriously though - I would maybe break it into groups - say pick 3 to 5 HOFer, pick 3 to 5 definite future HOFers, and pick 3 to 5 players that you really just like how they play. I think anything beyond trying to do 15 to 20 players is probably a bit aggressive, and frankly I'm not sure I could find a solid 20 players that I absolutely LOVE in this set.

Thanks, Just as I start to set up my binder, I get a request for Chipper Jones cards. I'm going to trade this guy the #60/60 Chipper Jones card I have for the #60/60 Bo Jackson card he has. He also has about 35 other cards, and I'm gonna be picky about what else he gets from me for what I get from him. Chipper's definitely one on my PC list, but now I may have to start over with him. Only the 1-for-1 card trade has been offered by me so far. As for Schmidt, Carlton, and Thome, I had also planned to get a type set of them, but realize they'll cost me a pretty penny, unless I can trade for them. I'm just gonna play this by ear, but I'm finally starting to have a lot of fun with this set that I like (because of this trade site). Thanks for the advice.

I'll get the White-B&W Zenith #/35 Eddie Murray in the mail tomorrow (only 7 remaining). Anyone else have a wishlist so I can help you with your player collection too? I'm working on my type sets, then I should be able to provide more help with y'alls' (plural possessive of y'all ) collections. I haven't forgotten anyone. Eventually, I may even trade some of my PC for Bo and Frank cards, or a higher serial # of a certain player + cash/bonus card to help us both out.

I'm picking up more and more of these every day. I'm still trying to find the ones people in this thread have posted as wanted. Any more player collectors want to add their want list to this thread. I'll be glad to keep my eyes open for you also.

I'm still trying to put together type sets opf all players in this set.

I know there are at least 2 Andruw Jones collectors that have posted/PM'd me in this thread. I now have 6 AJ trade cards from this set. However, I would like to find a way to swap you for an AJ card you have and/or one you have an extra of from this set. Please let me know which ones you have of AJ and I'll make you a proposition. I really want to help you 2 out, and hopefully myself in the process. If not, I'll make you a sell price(s) for the ones y'all need.

Oh, and I also have a 1 Schmidt and a few Thome cards I'd like to do the same with.
