Now that TTM/IP has it's own space back, shouldn't Spring Training have its own thread?

Greg....as it's your great idea, I nominate you to start one.

THANKS FOR OUR OWN SECTION BACK
DANNY

Okay, Dano, I will!

Now I don't do TTM like most of you, but I do a lot of IP through Twinsfest and the like, and I love reading this area, and am glad it's back on it's own. That being said, this is the real "Rush Week" of TTM. Spring Training!

So here's the deal, if you go to ST, post successes (and failures) of your IP experiences. If you send, tell who, when sent, and when you got it back (and please, please, scan!!!)

I took the plunge myself, and wrote a letter (by hand) and sent a card along to Mark McGwire. Why not? He's going to get bombed, I know, but it only costs me two stamps and a 2002 Fleer Tradition. (sent Feb. 24) Crossing my fingers!

First ST success of the season!
Heath Bell on a 2009 Topps card, signed in fine black sharpie, sent the Padres ST site on 2/17/10.
I sent out ten more requests today, so I have over 30 sent out this spring.

Hopefully I'll have some to show off next Monday. It seems the Braves only ship their mail once a week and it always gets to my house on Monday. The wait is killing me.

Hey guys, would rlly like to do this, is there a site with addresses and info?
http://lmgtfy.com/?q=2010+spring+training+addresses
I have that site saved actually :?

Was looking for info on how to send and stuff

Are you asking about cards?

Basically, you'll need 2 Forever or $.44 stamps, 2 envelopes (1 business style, 1 personal style preferably), paper and a few cards. Write a short note asking for your athlete to sign them and add some small "fluffery" like your a fan and stuff. Somewhere between 2-5 sentences would be a good goal.

Now, find the cards or small picture you'd like to get signed. My personal limit is 2 cards per request, but some people send between 1-4 regularly, so its not a big deal if you choose more or less. If the card has a glossy coat on it, be sure to rub it down good with baby powder to help the signature "stick."

Some people like to send their cards in toploaders, some do not. I really don't like to send cards in toploaders for 2 reasons: 1. You might get back a signed toploader instead of a card. 2. There is more of a risk of the letter getting stuck in the sorting machine if you use a toploader.

Address the large envelope to the athlete c/o his team for a current player/coach/executive or a home address for someone who is retired (if you can find one). Make sure you put your return address on this envelope also, because some teams/players will not take mail with no address (or so I hear).

Put your address on the small envelope twice, once as the return address and once as the to address. This saved me a TTM envelop once that got shredded in sorting. Make sure you put stamps on both envelopes before you send them out. Might sound simple, but I've caught myself not stamping one or the other when I've sent out a larger number.

Then, the simple stuff, like put the little envelope inside the big one, along with the note and cards. Seal the large envelope and send. Easy as that.

Most importantly though, don't send anything you're not prepared to get lost in the mail or not get back.

Now, if you weren't talking about cards, I send out baseballs, 8x10s, and 4x6s regularly also, so if need any advice on those, just ask.

Personally i dont add anything, my note goes Dear Mr_____ could you please sign and return the enclosed card, thank you for your time, sincerely my signature and my name underneath it

What does getting a $15 membership get u on scn, besides saving stamps?

Is there a way to see success ratio or something
