today was the Season Ticket Holder Open House at the CONSOL Energy Center. we got there right at Noon when it started and there was already a line but they did a great job of getting everyone inside in an orderly fashion and quickly. as soon as you get to the top of the steps (escalator in my case :p ) you can see the GIANT scoreboard and the beautiful fresh white ice. we spent about 2 hours walking around and taking in all the different areas of this beautiful building. there are so many more concession stands and restrooms compared to the Civic Arena and the walkways are at least twice the width. I will let the pics do the talking so you don't have to read anymore...

it certainly is night and day between the Igloo and the CEC.

most likely the Igloo will be torn down but there are a few groups trying to save it. the problem with saving it is it's pretty old and the inside isn't in the best shape. it's by no means falling down but very very out of date so it would be extremely costly to renovate it and reuse it.

we did have a great time. I loved all the MAF pics as well :p

looking at the pics again today makes me even more excited to go back and watch a game. Tuesday September 28th can't get here fast enough.

The pics are fantastic Dave! The new building looks phenomenal. You're going to have a great time at the new place (I know you had a great time at the old place too, but you get what I'm saying). They did an amazing job.

If I ever make it to Pittsburgh, Primanti Brothers and a Penguins game are on you. :lol: :lol:

Joe if you ever make it here I will certainly treat you to a game and a sandwich. there is a Primanti Brothers in the CEC. I forgot to take a pic of it though.

Dave it is a fantastic arena.

stu it's very fancy. I just hope it gets as loud as the Mellon did during games. thanks for the comment on the quality of the pics. this is my 3rd new camera in the last year. I was not happy with the Nikon I bought and then not happy with the Sony I received in exchange for the Nikon but I am very happy with this Kodak. I love Sam's Club because they allowed me to exchange the first 2 cameras because I wasn't happy with them.

Terry I agree and thanks for commenting on HI as well :p you should come here and catch a Caps game this season.

My friend Jon and I are trying to get Winter Classic tickets but I think that's all I'd come up for (this season at least)

I just honestly can't get over how awesome Consol looks.

If I were the city of Pitt I would get rid of the Igloo as soon as possible. It took WAY to many years to get rid of the Aud in Buffalo and still there is nothing is in its place.

there is a rumor that there will be a Mario Lemieux statue revealed on December 27th which will mark the 10th Anniversary of his return from his first retirement.

there is a goal from the Mellon in the Pens Gear store and the contractor did surprise the Pens by making the ceiling of their locker room resemble the igloo shape of the Mellon's roof...

I agree they need to knock the Mellon down as soon as possible. as much as I loved it and it's uniqueness I would hate to see it deteriorate like the Aud did. plus they need the parking or it would be a great place to set up the Big Screen that the Pens use every year during the Playoffs.
