GHOST - "Opus Eponymous" 2010/2011
Okay, so the record features purposefully over-the-top Satanic lyrics, classic 70s metal/rock riffs and singable choruses. The mastermind is Tobias Forge (formerly of the Magna Carta Cartel, Subvision and Repugnant) who basically shifts music styles towards the money.
(Side note, came out late 2010 in Europe/Asia and hit the North American markets in January 2011.
It's almost impossible to not hum the lyrics and then step back in hear them. For example the chorus of "Ritual" is a glorious...
This chapel of ritual
Smells of dead human sacrifices
From the altar bed
On this night of ritual
Evoking our master
To procreate the unholy bastard
I posted a link to the Ghost cover of the Beatles classic - "Here Comes the Sun" which is featured as a bonus track on the Japanese CD pressing. Live, they open the song up with 2 minutes of a baby crying and just blow away whatever semblance of a cheerful song that the Beatles could evoke.
