Well hey, if 2013 Kris Bryant cards can be inserted into 2014 products, and 2014 Schwarber cards can be inserted into 2015 products, then why not?

And now the backdooring/handing out to employees of these cards becomes a big deal. Did the Blowout Detective Agency ever figure out what went on there?

Did you really expect them to? :)

Hopefully the poster that showed off that pic was an employee, and was convinced to either give or sell them back to Topps.

2016 Topps Chrome Baseball, Hobby Box Info, Release Date

2016 Topps Chrome Baseball features Rookie Autographs, 2015 Correa Autographs

2016 Topps Chrome Baseball features a lot of the same content as 2016 Topps Series 1 and Series 2 only with the standard metal stylings the brand extension has had since it debuted 20 years ago. But there’s also some new content and the usual focus on Refractors and rookie autographs.

And the 2015 Topps Chrome Carlos Correa autographs that were signed after last year’s product was put to bed? They’re here.

2016 Topps Chrome Baseball hobby boxes have a pair of autographs.

Base Set

The base set has 200 cards. It’s a much smaller checklist than the combined flagship sets but with only four cards per pack, it’s a lot tougher to put together as well. As a result, expect the checklist to consist of stars and rookies.

Besides the basic Refractor, the rainbow-background parallels come in Prism, Purple, Blue, Green, Gold (/50), hobby-only Orange (/25), Red (/5) and Superfractors (1/1). Base cards also have Printing Plates. All of these except the basic and Prism Refractors are numbered.

Randomly inserted hot boxes have their own exclusive Black Refractors. These replace base cards in these unmarked boxes.

Short print variations for select players return for another year with different photos.

Autographs

Rookie Autographs make up the majority of the signed content in 2016 Topps Chrome Baseball. These have been a staple with the product for several years. Historically, like a lot of sets, the autograph checklists have been fairly deep presenting a mix of key first-year players and others that don’t amount to a whole lot.

Refractors come in several colors including basic Refractor, Purple, Blue, Gold, hobby-exclusive Orange (/25), Red (/5), Printing Plates, and hobby- and jumbo-only Superfractors. All Rookie Autograph Refractors are serial numbered.

Not all of the 2016 Topps Chrome Baseball autographs are rookies, though. MLB Debut Autographs bring over the theme and design from the Series 1 inserts. Team Logo Autographs take a similar path, although they don’t come with the pins that they did in Series 1. Base versions for both of these are numbered as are the Orange (/25), Red (/5), Printing Plate and Superfractor parallels.

Dual Autographs feature signature combinations of rookie and veteran players.

Last year, Carlos Correa made his MLB debut in time to be included in 2015 Topps Chrome, but only as a short print. He didn’t have an autograph in the product. Around the time the set released, Topps signed Correa to an exclusive autograph deal. Topps posted a picture of Correa holding an autographed 2015 Topps Chrome Superfractor with a caption asking where they should be inserted. The answer is here. The Superfractor will be inserted alongside other 2015 Topps Chrome Correa autographs. There’s no word yet on how this will be impacted by the Red Refractor versions that were offered for sale.

2016 Topps Chrome Baseball has a couple of basic insert sets that weren’t a part of the flagship release. Future Stars, a name long connected with young players in the flagship base set, returns as a colorful insert. The new Youth Impact takes a similar colorful approach to rookies. Both can be found with Green, Orange, Red and Superfractor parallels. Select Youth Impact cards have signed versions.

ROY Chronicles is a case hit highlighting past Rookie of the Year winners. Sorry, Bob Hamelin fans but the checklist is only active players who won the award. All of the base and Orange (/25), Red (/5) and Superfractor (1/1) parallels are numbered. There are also autographed versions that come with on-card signatures. These have similar parallels as well as Printing Plates.

First Pitch makes its Topps Chrome debut. These highlight celebrities and other notable people who threw out ceremonial pitches in 2015.

Hmm, the Superfractor could turn out pretty nice this year - I'm a big fan of the 2016 base design, though I know others aren't. Hoping they turn out a little better than 2015 at least, didn't find that they popped very much last year.

I love the fact that they went without borders, full bleed. I still likely will not buy any but the mock-ups look solid.

The Future Stars inserts are AWESOME

Too bad Miami has no one that fits in this set.

Don't get too excited about the Supers yet, Topps went full-bleed for football then went full-tard for the Supers. You can't hardly see the circular pattern. Someone on BO almost threw an Jerry Rice away because it looked like a base card.

Good news, folks. Evidently all Reds are present and accounted for.

All 2015 Topps Chrome Carlos Correa autographs "in Topps' possession"

All 2015 Topps Chrome Carlos Correa autographs “in Topps’ possession”

The situation with the unreleased 2015 Topps Chrome Carlos Correa autographs that mysteriously showed up for sale appears to have been resolved. Topps has remained quiet about the situation until now.

A company spokesperson said, “All Carlos Correa Topps Chrome autograph cards are in Topps’ possession.”

No further details or clarification were provided.

The situation arose when someone was offering the cards for sale on the Blowout Cards forums. The only problem was, the cards had not been officially released. Although the cards were teased when Topps showed the Superfractor autograph via social media last fall.

Topps finalized their exclusive autograph deal with Correa after 2015 Topps Chrome Baseball was completed.

The autographs have now been announced for 2016 Topps Chrome Baseball, which is scheduled to release in August.

How is it that I don't remember this happening?

Or was it seabass? I remember something about him trying to sell Correa autos that he didn't actually own.
