You know how 2012 Leaf Memories pays homage to the marquee Leaf product of the early 90s? That's for good reason. 1990 Leaf is a heck of a set, elegance in simplicity. Well, instead of messing with buybacks with foil stampings and new players on the old design, why not just go for the original?

This 1990 Leaf Series I box break will be free to each participant. There will be ten participant slots available. Cards will be dished out via a 5-round draft, draft order to be determined by random number.

Participants (Random Number):
1. TBTwinsFan (0.711042089054115)
2. Alexs64 (0.308573436013548)
3. lonesomeagle1 (0.632022935183384)
4. metallicalex777 (0.0335424799852544)
5. CatdaddysCards (0.472337054829446)
6. Resident Bay Fan (0.0574545372217523)
7. Pine Tar (0.537098679109787)
8. 55_marlins_sp (0.639377433222595)
9. MojoDan (0.334734553551901)
10. steve-a-reno (0.909492252067361)

Timing of the break: I will plan to complete this break by the night of Sunday December 30 and will post the results as soon as I can after that (hopefully that night). Note that I may be able to complete the break sooner, so keep an eye on this thread for updates.

Draft:
Each participant will be given a random number from my version of Excel. Round 1 of the draft will go in the order, smallest to largest, of the particpants' assigned random numbers.

Round 1 - Participants in order, smallest to largest, of their assigned random numbers will select which position in the draft they want for rounds 2-4.
Rd 1 Draft Order:

  1. [*=1]metallicalex777
    [*=1]Resident Bay Fan
    [*=1]Alexs64
    [*=1]MojoDan
    [*=1]CatdaddysCards
    [*=1]Pine Tar
    [*=1]lonesomeagle1
    [*=1]55_marlins_sp
    [*=1]TBTwinsFan
    [*=1]steve-a-reno
Rounds 2-4 - Snake draft in the order determined in Round 1 [for example, first pick in Round 2 selects last in Round 3]. When it's a participant's turn to draft, that person will select one not-yet-drafted card from the break. If there are multiples of a given card pulled from the box, drafting said card gives only one of that card to the drafter.
Rd 2 Draft Order: TBD

Round 5 - Snaking of draft picks continues into this final round of the draft so that the person selecting last in the initial round of card selections will draft first in this round. Instead of selecting one card, however, draft selections in this round are for all of the not-yet-drafted cards from a MLB team.
Rd 5 Draft Order: TBD

Submitting draft picks - Please be prepared to start the draft the morning of Monday, December 31 (but possibly as early as Saturday Dec 29) and try to make your selections in this thread in a timely manner. Also, after you have made a selection, please PM me and/or the participant next in line.

Dud box possibility: If it turns out that a given card from 1990 Leaf Series I is not hit in this box, I will supply one (1) from my PC to be available during Rounds 2-4 of the draft.

Delivery of the cards: I will try to ship out the cards within a few days of the end of the draft. Participants, send me a PM with your address.

Other stuff: I may have left out some important details. If so, I'll add more later.

Thomas (and I think Justice, Walker, Sanders, and Randy Johnson) were in Series II.

Puzzle card in each pack is correct. I think it's a Yogi Berra puzzle.

I ripped a couple boxes of this years ago just for fun and the nice looking base set.Boxes were $30-$35 then.Fun break.

Great stuff! I remember busting so many boxes of this with my dad when it came out. I was 9. Still have 2 complete sets that we put together.

That's all I'll break open tonight. Should wrap up tomorrow and get a full checklist posted shortly thereafter.

I'll also plan to scan and post many of the stars to continue to show the beauty of this set. Leaf seems to have chosen pictures of players in their white colored jerseys when possible, which I think works very well with the clean design of the card.
