What was the last Mainstream Baseball Card Set that was awesome without GIMMICKS?

This is super easy ~ 1987 Topps. I mean the names and draws to that set were amazing back then. It was insanely popular and it was (and remains today) an awesome set, despite value. The trading was furious with these cards as I recall. Kal Daniels, Bobby Bonilla, Pete Incaviglia, Wally Joyner, BJ Surhoff, Bo Jackson, Rafael Palmeiro, Jose Canseco, Mark McGwire, Barry Bonds, Will Clark, Cory Snyder. These are just some of the cards that carried that set and kept collectors trying to rack up as many copies of each as they could (and God knows they could have racked up a VERY large # of each given production!!!).

As opposed to the most boring and useless set ever made - 1986 Topps!
