Whatever happened to that guy with the 2006 Topps Blue set?

I remember when the guy posted on Beckett about receiving the blue set, and various people expressed interest in buying the cards of their player. I was too lazy to shoot him a message about Gomes, which turned out to be lucky; all the of the cards got listed individually on eBay, and those that had been asked about were priced at something like $100. Ended up getting mine for $10.49.

This thread came up during the Cards that don't exist thread...very helpful information in here. Still looking for the Lance Niekro but seems to me it would be easy to confuse these both as buyer and seller for the 2006 Topps Chrome Blue Refractors.

Also any reports of these cards getting backdoored by Topps (versions not #07 /10) or were they actually destroyed?

Thanks,
Jeff

Looooooosiana!
Giving this another bump-maybe we can push it out over the Twitter account and see if any new leads/info can be drawn from there?

Thanks,
Jeff

Ask and you shall received. I have it in the queue. I happened to stumble in to this one, but if you ever find a thread that I can help promote on Twitter just @ me, send me a PM, or go to the Twitter thread with a link!

Awesome-hopefully we get some traction from it! I just reactivated my "hobby" Twitter that I created years ago but never used. Going to try to get going with it this week! Username is same as here

Thanks,
Jeff

This is the first real info I've seen on these cards. I read the whole thread but I've still got questions. They made redemption cards of derby eligible players and if your player won you could send it in for a complete 2006 blue set?? Of all of the cards made one set was redeemed? Maybe two?
Yikes, looks like that's a big reason I can't find the Wakefield. I hope Topps did a better job stamping these redemptions than donruss did with the challenge 1/1s:D

Yes, that is exactly what happened. As far as anyone knows, just one set was redeemed, and it was #7/10, instead of 1/10, for some reason. The actual redemption cards were pretty rare, just 10 copies per player, as show in Jack Straw's post above. The winner posted about it on the Beckett boards back in the day, and he briefly listed some on ebay for prices that were high at the time but now I'm sure a lot of collectors would gladly fork it over. I think a few sold as BINs, but he quickly pulled the listings and disappeared from BMB.

Being 11 years on, I suspect that if any cards made it out the back door, they would have surfaced by now. However, test prints and things from the 90s are still just now coming out of the woodwork, so nothing is certain.

Haven't seen any blues other than the 7/10 run, though a number of backdoored 2004 blues (theoretically 1/1s) have shown up.

Almost all of the 2004 blue's I've seen don't have the serial #1/1 on them. They do exist however, I own 2 of them:

Also have a 2004 Topps Chrome Blue Refractor 1/1 (rumor is there are back doors of these cards as well not serial #ed):
