1992 Topps Gold Sealed Packs NOT GOLD WINNERS

I have 10 sealed packs of 1992 Topps Gold cards. I have seen tons of these packs with Gold "Winners" cards in them, but the packs that I have are the regular Topps Gold cards (not Winners).Has anyone seen these before?
It's my vague recollection that the Topps Gold cards were inserts in the regular wax packs and that the Gold Winners were in some kind of redemption packs.

Why do I want that pack with Brien Taylor on the front so bad? The winners was a scratch off trivia game if I remember right.

Are they packs of 10? 10 Gold cards per factory set.

I believe you received Gold packs originally for the scratch off game. Then so many were beingsubmitted they started doing Gold Winner packs. You could pick a winner every time with a bright lightshining through game card.

I have a buch of those Gold Winner Stamped cards. Topps even sent me a form that I had to file on my taxes for winning what they claimed was over $600 value. I argued that by placing the "Winner" stamp on the cards that they decreased the actual value of the cards. That didn't matter, I still had to pay the taxes on it.

I recall hearing the light truck but couldn't get it to work. I did figure out the pattern once scratched so I had a few winners. Even better, Topps sent what may have been a 600 ct box full of packs, more than what I won.

About 5 years ago, the local Dollar Tree had 40 card packs of regular Topps Gold that looked like those. I was about 4 cards short of the set when they ran out.

I seem to remember getting the gold winners for scratch off instant winners and each card also had a certain amount of runs. Once you collect so many runs you trade them in for regular golds. I think I remember getting both types in the mail.

Here's a link to an interesting Chicago Tribune article from back in 1992. http://articles.chicagotribune.com/1992-01-17/sports/9201050770_1_topps-gold-cards-jumbo-packs My two favorite parts are the reference to a "computer buff" using "prodigy" (that sure takes me back) & the estimated print run of 76 million packs of 1992 Topps. (to think we complain about today's sets being over-produced, lol). Unfortunately, it didn't answer my question as to how these packs came to be.

Who's "showing" on top of the other packs" The Taylor might be worth selling as a sealed pack. Also the factory set theory sounds pretty likely at this point.

I am going to look into the factory set theory a little bit more. See if I can find out how they were packaged, etc. Also, I'll look and see who's on top of the other packs, but I don't remember seeing any other stars.

These Gold packs are what originally came for the scratch off contest. I received about 15 packs back then (Still have the commons somewhere).

Once they started getting slammed with correctly completed contest cards (because of the light thing) is when the 'Winners' cards came about.

Actually this sounds familiar now that you mention it. When 14yo kids like myself started sending off 20+ winning cards at a time they had to do something
