Always thought it was a vastly underrated product, especially the "prized" (refractor) cards.

Not that I'm trying to make a "prized" (refractor) set, but occasionally I'll pick up some of those. I just listed several on eBay of the rarest versions (limited to 55) and even "commons" like mo vaughn and rusty greer are getting looks and follows.

No doubt this was Donruss' version of chrome. In fact it's a carbon copy of that technology, right to the refractor shine.

Although not numbered, the "prized" parallels (refractors) each have a stated print run, each "set" has its prized cards limited to a lower print run, all the way down to 55 MADE for the "Preferred" cards.

Below is the baseballcardpedia write up.

1998 Donruss Collections is a massive 750-card Topps Chrome-esque parallel brand that draws from four previously released sets: 1998 Donruss Series One, 1998 Leaf, 1998 Donruss Elite, and 1998 Donruss Preferred.

The set is fractured so that the 200 BASE Donruss cards are the most common and the 200 Donruss Preferred BASE cards are the rarest -- in fact, according to Donruss only 1400 copies of each BASE Donruss Collections Preferred cards were printed.

Yup, I like it too. I have a soft spot for unreasonably complex set concepts / executions. Was always a little skeptical about the stated print runs for these though, doesn't it seem like more of the rare stuff pops up than you would expect? Compared to, ie, the 98 Bowman Chrome Gold Refs /50? (not the annivs /5)

I enjoy the look of the cards as well. but aren't the pictures you posted in the thumbnail the same ones that you are selling on the other site right now? Do YOU like them are just trying to get some interest in them?

Those are the pics I have in my phone solely because I listed them. And that's why I posted those here (because I already took the pics).

Those are the "most impressive" prized I have. Who'd want to see a stack of prized base commons?

And a few days since being listed, I find it very interesting the Manny and Greer have EIGHT watchers! What??

I understand the Clark having a bunch of watchers but Manny and Greer? Yet no one has LOOKED at the Edgar.

the look of all the prized collections are impressive especially in person, with that being said the card stock is very flimsy and I have had more than one with condition issues. IMO if they would have put these cards on a thicker stock (say at least like a Topps Chrome) thickness, and numbered them..... then these card would be worth way more than they actually sell for. With that being said, they still have a nice look to them. As for your Clark, he always is a big seller...

98 Donruss Collections seemed uninspired at the time of release and wasn't a hit. Same exact designs as already issued cards, just on a chrome card. Prized Collections should have been machine serial numbered. No GU or autograph cards, no new inserts. It seemed lazy back then and still seems that way to me today. The cards look pretty nice. The base chromes look dark in my opinion, especially the full-photo border cards of Donruss design. The Prized Collections look great though. Overall, a C- product in my opinion. A fun chase for player collectors these days.

Since many people don't know, the print runs for Prized Collections were:
Prized Collections Donruss - 560 sets
Prized Collection Leaf - 400 sets
Prized Collections Elite - 220 sets
Prized Collections Preferred - 55 sets

Even if Donruss hadn't gone out of business in 98, I don't remember this product selling well enough to make a return in 99.

I'm still looking for the Prized Collections #552 and the sample prized collections of the Donruss Fan Club card.

I sold a Jeter Preferred Prized collections a couple of months ago, still have a small handful...Arod, Schilling, Bagwell (PP subset), Ventura, and a few others. I also have a good stack of Prized Donruss, Leaf, and Elite.

I really like the Donruss Preferred Prized Collections in hand. They are so shiny. Underrated if you ask me. I have all of ARod's Donruss Collections cards. With that being said, I guess I don't have all versions. I still need Alex's 2 SAMPLE versions.

Cool set from the '90s and I have all the Albert Belle versions but they did confuse the hell out of me for a long time before I acquired them all.

I hated this set. For the longest time I thought the 'collections' printed on the back was a subset of each release, not a separate release. It took me awhile to figure out what I actually had but once I did, I was happy I had most of the PC cards.

I'm still looking for a Kevin Orie PC Preferred card. I've bought it three times, and each time was not listed correctly.

Does anyone have a scan of the sample cards? Need those too, but haven't ever seen what they actually look like, or where the "sample" is printed.
