However, it is still a precipitous drop for a card that would have brought over $1K in Joba's rookie heyday. Base autos used to sell for $150, and now can be had for $8 - $10 plus shipping.

The above sold on Nov. 11 for $3.49 + $2.99 s/h. Back when this set came out, I sold a BGS 9.5 copy for just over $500. (Picture was HUGE so I took it out and just put the link.)

A non-auto for over $500...wow, that was in the days of monster premiums for BGS too.

I had purchased a couple of sets right when they came out and had one extra card in each set. One of them had a dupe of Patterson so I sent it in right away and it came back with the 9.5. At the time, there was only one other 9.5 out there and not too many had been graded. One guy sent me an offer to do the deal off ebay and he shot over somewhere around $300. It was up to around $50 at the time and I've never been one to end listings with bids early to sell off ebay so I let it ride. Turned out well for me but certainly not whoever ended up getting the worst of that end. I think it's the only time I've ever gotten this lucky in the hobby!

This guy was a monster in the hobby at one time (if not THE monster). I believe this to be the exact card I sold for $3,200 in 2001. I say this because I was SHOCKED to see it come back a clean MINT 9. It's WAY O/C top/bottom and they graded several of my cards O/C back then from this set because of the T/B centering.
