Ever think what would have been with Topps Finest StrataChrome? These are 1994 Tests of the products. Yes the player isn't a star but still cool IMO. In baseball I only have Trevor Wilson , basketball had Antonio Davis, Rick Fox, and Vlade Divac. It's hard to tell in the pic but the bottom Wilson is a Refractor. The basketball ones there are more versions.

And BTW, I've got a new phone and the new App, and we will just leave it at that. I have no idea why the pics don't end up in the order I take them, sorry.

Ok, I think last post for tonight. If anyone has versions of anything I've/will post, lmk, I'm curious what is out there.

First is a 1999 Topps Eric Chavez. Similar to the base card, but this is plastic. Second is a dual panel with Mo Vaughn n Eric Chavez. It actually folds to standard card size. On the back it also calls them Refractors, which they are not. Third are some Jay Bell Stadium Promos. The regular issued promo, then 2 others where the textures and Stadium Club logo colors differ. Last is something that I guess can be recreated, but knowing that it was used by the creators at some point for display is kinda neat. It's basically 2 Glavines merged together, then a tab/stand cut so it stands.

Awesome card! The Power Alley die cut is one of my very favorite designs. I was searching for one when this popped up on eBay, the only Belle PSA 10:

View attachment 63912

I had to have it. It was a BIN/BO, and I'm sure I ended up way overpaying For it. About a week later a raw one came up and I ended up getting it for about 10% of what I paid for the PSA 10. Oh well, I love those cards...
A PSA 10 of that card has to be extremely rare for any player! Now you have one graded and one ungraded :) One of the better looking inserts Donruss produced IMO! Thanks for sharing man

sweet Piazza!

Alright, here are a few more. So the one with Ripken and Stocker are actually one card. Not two cards mounted together but a dual sided (same thickness as a regular card). I seem to have a handful of these. Besides the Ripken other forum collectors may be interested in are one with Burks, Lofton and Orel. These may become available but unique duals. Then the second one is a Sample that I don't think I have seen before, has anyone? The Bagwell shows the front and back. I believe there are 110 subjects created. Some may become available, but I do plan on keeping some. The third item I'll post now is one that I don't plan on moving. So the 1993 Finest Jumbo set was a 33 card set, cards 84-116. Well they made a special unreleased one as a test to celebrate Piazza winning ROY. From what we were told, possibly only one copy was produced. I think it's a pretty cool item. Some of this stuff has been fun to go through. I'll have a few other things to post either tonight or this weekend. There is some neat stuff from other sports that I may sprinkle in this thread unless people care enough that I don't contaminate.

All right, here is my post for tonight. IMO some neat items that have an effect on the creation of Topps Finest etc. Here are some of the items SGW approached Upper Deck with in 1992. Since they said they weren't interested in Chrome or Refractor technology etc. , they were able to go to Topps. They used images from the 1991 UD Silver Slugger set. I am not sure if magnets were their main play, but the examples I have are either Front only/foil backs, or Magnets. gracecollector, these would fit nicely into your magnet thread. If you look closely, they show different effects on most of the cards from the borders, backgrounds, and other details. Any that look like the same, one is foil one is magnet.

I'm also gonna throw in a few basketball items. Some 96-97 Finest Refractor tests using silver and gold technology on the Bronzes. Then IMO another unique item. 1992 Production Samples for a Reebok Shaquille O'Neal set with 6 different test versions.

Dude! I so want that Joe Smith!

Those basketball look freaking ridiculous! I really love how they almost have an x-fractor/superfractor look.

More great stuff. The Alan Trammels are the bomb.

Intern at Upper Deck in 1992: "Holy wow, these cards are awesome! I hope we do this!".

Exec at UD in 1992: "So what's the unit price per card if we scale up to full production? Ok, thanks, but we'll pass."

Ouch.

I mentioned these a month back... 1998 Pinnacle Performers Power Trip (non serial numbered). Just obtained a Bagwell and I have seen an A-Rod. Do these exist for every player in the set (has anyone seen any other players)?

Here is tonight's post, sadly, the amount of "sweet" items is getting small. I'll probably have a few more items tomorrow though. First are 1997 Finest cards that are in Silver which these players were not done that way in the set. Also it won't pic up on the phone but they actually have some etching on the surface which differs from what was issued as well.

2nd up are some really neat cards IMO. They come from testing of the 1994 Bowmans Best set. They Piazza image is different from the set, and can someone lmk who the Cardinal is? Take a look at the names they chose.

Then I'll throw in a few Football and Basketball. I'm posting the Jake Reed in here because of what carrsallstars said about pricing UD had to consider. I think it's cool because it actually has the sticky attached where the buyer was looking to see what the cost to produce would be. Then the 2 MJ cards. The first isn't amazing, just wanted to show a Refractor that was destroyed at some point but they kept the pieces together. Not sure why, but kinds unique. Then the second one, is pretty sweet. First look at the etching across it that differs from what they went with, but the main thing is they (Topps I believe) tried to get approval to use the #23 jersey vs the #45 he came back in. They couldn't get it to go through but this is pretty sweet test/proof IMO.
