Was asked this question by a co worker today:

What city surprisingly DOESNT have an MLB team?

My answer was Las Vegas. I know they have casinos and lots of other things to do there but i'm surprised that a big casino mogul hasnt bought and built an MLB team/stadium there. I know they have an MiLB team but seems like that place would be ripe for an MLB franchise.

I know MLB does a lot of research to place teams if/when they expand like population size, resident income, tourism & market size.

What other major city doesnt have an MLB team where you think it would work?

TBD
San Antonio & Indianapolis based on population and other success within the city

OKC & Louisville based on potential fan base

San Antonio would probably work.

Not sure if Indy or Louisville would work sandwiched in between Cincy, Chicago and St. Louis. Im sure the Cincy, Chicago and St. Louis team owners would block any move to put an MLB team in either of those two cities.

The NFL and NBA do well in Indy but not sure if Louisville is a major league city, although is has major ties to MLB.

Basketball is failing miserable in Indy. Every year they beg for public funds.

As far as the colts, yes they sell out every game, but the public built that stadium, and we will be paying an outrageous food and beverage tax, and high hotel tax for the rest of our lives.

Indy has a triple a team that is a great experience, so no we don't need a professional baseball team.

Real answer: maybe Charlotte or Nashville.

Nashville would be cool because they could share with Vandy.

Living in a PCL city, I know why vegas and new orleans are not MLB cities - their attendance is poor. Nashville is the same way but maybe this new ballpark they opened this season has rejuvenated the love for the Sounds (we'll find out in a few days when the Isotopes go there for four games).

Don't know the IL well enough to know if I would concur with Charlotte as a legit answer to the question. It seems reasonable but I haven't been watching how the Knights are supported in order to deserve a MLB franchise.

I'm not sure there is any city who doesn't already have a MLB team that deserves a MLB franchise and I'm a supporter there should actually be contraction as two franchises aren't showing the type of MLB team support I'd expect to see.

A Las Vegas team wouldn't need to be talented... ever. Their road ticket sales would be the best in the league every year. People from Boston would come to see the Sox when they play in LV, but nobodys going to anywhere else to see a road game.

The A's have flirted with Vegas recently, but I really think the big restrictions on betting that MLB would put in place would keep a team out of there.

Why doesnt Miami ever sell out there stadium? Its Miami, FL

You can go to the beach...walk around the city...go out to a nice restaurant...see the nightlife...go to a bar...or go watch a baseball game...

It would be the same thing with Las Vegas...Some much OTHER things to do

It would be the same with Tampa Bay, but there stadium sucks
