Even Angels fans don't care much about Pujols' potential 600th home run.

The 600 HR club is definitely watering down and fans don't think it is much of a milestone anymore (I totally forgot Jim Thome was in this club). Albert Pujols is still my favorite active player and he only needs 31 more HR to equal Ken Griffey Jr (an all time favorite of mine). I stopped posting pictures of Pujols "oddball" purchases since collectors did not seem as interested anymore.

Angel fans are typical Orange County sports fans. They love running their mouths when their teams are in the hunt, but during seasons like this, they stay quiet (and away from the stadium.) I'd be willing to bet most Angel "fans" don't even know Pujols is chasing a historic home run.

I live in Aliso Viejo which is about 30 minutes from Angel stadium..

I'm a Mariner fan since I'm a transplant from Seattle area and I only go to Anaheim maybe once or twice a year when the Mariners come to town..

I'm more of a Dodger fan than an Angel fan..

To me, it just doesn't have the excitement like it used to.. now if it was Griffey going for 600.. yes I would be there..

Fixed it for you in bold above. 600 club doesn't seem very watered down when you have to go up the active list about 3/4 of the way to hit the 600/700 HR club.

500 club getting watered down, 600/700 not so much to me.

3 guys made it from the beginnings of organized MLB baseball (late 1800s) through the 1970s, then we have 6 more join the club in a matter of 30-35 years, all essentially coming into the game just slightly before or after 1990. Add another 6 to the 500 club in that same period! For me, it has made that plateau much less special.

Fixed it again. Anyone who was under the suspicion or admitted to using steroids, will never be on my list of all time greats.

Well, you better dwindle down that list a little bit more then. By your thin aired standards, I'd also knock Ruth, Griffey, Thome, Reggie, Manny, Papi, Mickey, Thomas and Sheffield off the list for one reason or another.

Seems weird that he is still playing and is about to move out of the 500 club and into the 600 and by only 1 of 6 players then to be in that group, and how far will he go.

If he finishes this year at 615, let's assume he plays 4 more years and puts up similar HR #s to what Thome did through his age 41 season.

Age 38 - 2018: 23 (434 AB)
Age 39 - 2019: 25 (340 AB)
Age 40 - 2020: 15 (324 AB)
Age 41 - 2021: 8 (186 AB)

That would get him to 676 after the 2021 season. Anaheim is paying him $30 million for the 2021 season, so if physically able, he will be hitting. Pujols is getting paid over $100 million the next 4 seasons, so in all likelihood he will get many more ABs than Thome did his last four years. I'd give Pujols a 15-20% chance of getting to 700 HRs.

I think if he can get in the top 5, passing 660, which he should, then people should recognize how special he was. And hate him or love him Arod screwed himself w that last suspension. The close to 700 has to be irritating.

People should already recognize how special of a player he was and those who don't likely just started watching baseball and missed how unbelievably good he was when playing with the Cardinals. 10 straight seasons of .310+/30+/100+/.950 OPS+/5 WAR+ while never finishing lower than top 10 in MVP voting to start his career. He should already be regarded as one of the top 20 position players of all-time.

I could have reworded that and said we already should, no doubt, but those who are missing or fell out of the boat should re-recognize at that point if that makes sense. I am 100% with you it shouldn't take that.

Attendance at Roger Maris's 61st homer game was 23,000, something like one-third capacity. Sure it wasn't they hype environment of today. But it was one last game in a historic season, not some random game in a career. And the Yankees won that game to give them 109 (!) for the year. Why didn't anyone show up for that game?

Attendance tonight was 40,236 according to MLB.com

That's still more than 5,000 short of a sellout, and on a Saturday night, so Angels fans had no excuse about work or school.

Anyway, awesome milestone and what a way to do it with a grand slam.
I just wish LA fans had more respect for this legendary player.

I don' think so. But I could see him finishing with 660+. Because he could and will be hurt for over the next few years.
