Obviously would have to get the box prices way down though, just to be clear. I agree that $500 a box is INSANE and no happening.

If a group break was done by team certain teams would have more players (for example the Rockies have 5 players in the set - Helton, Walker, Bichette, Castilla, and Burks). Other teams would be much more valuable (Mariners with Griffey and Arod). Plus the buy in would get tough for teams such as the White Sox which would pit Mansgame against the Frank Thomas collectors and me against the resident Ellis Burks collector. So you'd more than likely face multiple spots wanted by multiple board members.

For a three box break, I would pay $40 for the White Sox... if we are talking $40 per team. I bet if you tried you could do it... might have to be like some serious guys putting up for a specific team and then doing a random.org for a draft like system for the balance teams... for example, I would never do it unless I had the rights to Belle or White Sox at least. I would pay up for that though... not sure why some people wouldn't. Fun and you get a shot at getting your guy on a diffractor which is the gamble and would pay for the buy-in.

I think that it would be best to do sliding scale. NYY/Jeter sell higher than the Marlins. You would have to tinker with the prices to make it right across the board.

FWIW, I would pay higher than $40 for the Cardinals slot. I collect Lankford but McGwire in the team set would be a larger draw.

Way to many "bum" teams/players to make an individual team or player slot work IMHO. That's unless the boxes were half the list price. I personally think the group breaks that were ran a while back had the groups structured about as fair as possible. But you would have to double-triple those listed prices now. I'll try and go back and pull the ones that Rusty n I ran as I'm curious what they translate to now at $300-450/box vs $150ish then.

3 boxes of 1998 Tek Break?? Hmmm...
What would I pay for 3 common Gwynn base Teks (while knowing an 80% chance I will not need them) and a 5% (4/90) chance of a Gwynn diffractor?
$10? $15? No higher... I'd pay even less if forced to take the entire Padres team! :D

Now, if I had Jeff King? We're talking big bucks!!!!!!!

I love that we've had three Diffractors not listed as such on ebay in just the past few days. It just goes to show you that there are likely hundreds upon hundreds of unidentified Diffractors out there in dime boxes, deserted collections, and storage. And gotta love those that even PSA can't identify.

I agree that it is almost impossible to make the $450 price tag work. You need them like more like $150 or $200. I think if you wanted to be serious about it, you could field what people would pay and then see where we finish out. Pulling the historical way we broke it out and prices would help.

In a three box break, if we needed to step up $ wise, I would pay $40 for just the rights to Belle.

Just curious, what is the price tag for a Gywnn diffractor? I think you have to take into account that when thinking about these box breaks... at least I am when it comes to Belle. Not to mention if you were to get super lucky and get a base pattern you've been in search of.

I'd be down for the Andruw or Braves slot depending on how it was broken up. I wasin RustyGreerFan's break and was happy with the way it was done.

Has anyone who knows this seller contacted him and asked about doing a group break himself?

Here is how mine was ran just over 2 years ago for reference. This was for 6 boxes and it looks like the total with shipping etc in for the lots was about $1000. Again, that was for 6 boxes. I actually had forgot I had done it this was with 9 lots. Each lot being cards 1-10, 11-20, 21-30 etc. then we had a week or so where members made trades, contacted others to go in on the lots etc. It wasn't the easiest thing to fill as many people are player specific, but enough group buys/traded occurred to make it work. You'd have to double these prices if you could find 6 boxes at $300 each. That's quite a jump and I personally don't see that # working.....

Even if Eddie 'dropped' his asking price to $300.00 per box, I can't see paying that. I would be far better off paying $100.00 each on eBay for three star diffractors that I needed, and I've never paid that much for a diffractor. Might pick up three or four commons that someone else can use in a box, but that's a big payout with an almost zero chance of even coming close to getting my money back. I enjoy cracking boxes, but I would be way overpaying for the privilege.

Was at a hockey rink in Granby CT a while ago and stopped by that guy's store. Mostly fantasy stuff, Japanese anime, and things like that. Out of there in five minutes. He was not at all interested in dropping his $475/$500 price even for a cash in hand deal. Tracked down the guy in Annandale VA (actually the seller is in Arlington VA) and wouldn't think of dealing with him. He and his father, both building contractors, have a history of eBay fraud -- multiple user ID's, lot of negative feedback on some of the user ID's, etc.

I'm assuming with this guys prices, he isn't interested in selling them. It's crazy to think how this set got so hot out of nowhere haha

Well, looks like someone bought two of Eddie's boxes each for the $475.00 price yesterday afternoon. The eBay bidding pseudonym m***a is the same person who bought a number of very expensive boxes last summer or spring. No idea who it is, and I have never seen that person bidding on other Teks. May well be a speculator who figures to cash in sometime down the line.
