No not the way I read it
Per the rules I read it that you just start at one that is what it says on the main thread.
So if your number is 43 and they only have 38 or what ever is less them the number need you just start at 1 and that would be the number you use instead.
Because for my games I did not count from 38 and then down to what ever number made my middle number of 54.
So from what you 2 think then I should have used season 16 but I did not, because it does not say to keep counting until you come up with a number to equal the number listed.

I just woke up, so maybe that's why your post isn't making sense to me, but...

Hi,

To answer some questions:

Going forward, it's inevitable that every ABC number will exceed it's limit. When this happens, you're exactly right....just start back at the top from 1.

For A, this means any number higher than 30 (the total number of current franchises)
For B, this means the total number of years franchise A has been in existence. Please keep the pre-1915 boxscore rule in mind for older franchises.
For C, this means 154 for pre-expansion seasons (1915-1960), and 162 for every year since.

So, as I read it in your last example, you should have used 16. Did you actually use 1?

Hello,

I already clarified this point earlier, but I'm still looking for my post that elaborates further by saying that you do have to continue counting from the top of the list until you reach your actual ABC number.

Sorry Pine Tar, but those scores will have to be re-done (the ones where your ABC number flips back to the top).

Here it is (post 29 from the week 1 thread):

Right you are. I addressed this in the original thread. His score is actually 10, using the 1976 Pirates on May 15th.

I'd like to say I'm sorry for squeaking out a 1/2 point "win", but I'll take it! Good luck the rest of the way, and I really appreciate the interest/involvement you've shown!

As for your clarifications:

------

a little more clarification then ....

A - will count as 28 , 29 , 30 , 1 , 2 ..... Correct

B - hypothetical situation : we're up to a number higher than the total number of seasons for our team (almost a guarantee when we get arizona , tampa , colorado , or florida and also a real possibility for the blue jays , mariners , royals , astros , mets, angels , etc)....in such a case would we simply take their worst (highest numbered) ranked season ? No, you would continue counting from the top of their respective list until you get to 3 higher than the previous game.

C - counting by 5 , when we get to the end and need to "flip" the schedule....would we assume counting would go 158 , 159 , 160 , 161 , 162 , 1 , 2 , 3 , .... (or 153 , 154 , 1 , 2 , 3 , if our season was during the shorter seasons) ? or would any number beyond the season limit mean we automatically use game 1 after "flipping" the counter ?

Your first assumption is correct. Simply count by ones until the end of the season, and continue counting at the top of the list until you get to 5 higher than the previous (just like you outlined).

Posts 31-33 from this thread also confirm the approach we need to take.

Hello,

I already clarified this point earlier, but I'm still looking for my post that elaborates further by saying that you do have to continue counting from the top of the list until you reach your actual ABC number.

Sorry @Pine Tar, but those scores will have to be re-done (the ones where your ABC number flips back to the top).

that's not the way I'm reading the first thread you made of this under the notes you posted. IT says nothing starting from the last season and then counting until you arrive to the number needed to make your number. And I'm not going to dig thread 2 other threads looking for the example of how to score it since I read the first and the orgininal thread of the this game

HOW TO PLAY

When you joined, you posted three random numbers between 1 and 30. Each number has a specific meaning as to how you will start the season. As commissioner, my numbers are simply the average of everyone else's (8,14,22).

From this point on, the 1st number will be referred to as "A", the 2nd will be "B", and the 3rd will be "C".

"A" refers to the rank of a franchise in all-time wins
"B" refers to the rank of all-time single season wins for that franchise
"C" refers to a single game from the season identified in "B".

Example:

My season starts with 8,14,22.

So,

A=8: The New York Yankees rank 8th all-time in wins
http://www.baseball-reference.com/teams/
*Be sure to sort by wins

B=14: The Yankees' 14th winningest season was in 2004
http://www.baseball-reference.com/teams/NYY/
*Be sure to sort by wins

C=22: The Yankees' 22th game in 2004 was April 29th
http://www.baseball-reference.com/te...e-scores.shtml

For Game 1 of the season, I would refer to the New York Yankees boxscore on April 29th, 2004 to score my team.

As you progress through the season, the "ABC" numbers for each game will be increased by the following for each game:

A=1
B=3
C=5

Since I have 8,14,22 to start the season, I would have 9,17,27 for Game 2, 10,20,32 for Game 3, etc...

The length of the season guarantees that every major league team will have an influence on your overall record.

NOTES:

For "A", once you get to 30, go back to 1 for the next game.

For "B", if you go through every year the franchise has been in existence, start back at 1

For "C", if you go through the last game of the season in question, start back at 1

Boxscores are generally only available from 1915-present. If your "B" number refers to a team before 1915, simply go down the list to the next available season for the same franchise that is 1915-present.

I always accommodate whenever possible, but this question has been asked and answered a number of times already. Just found another one in post 17 of this thread.

I will personally re-score your week 3 but going forward, please address excess ABC numbers accordingly.

I'll also edit the original thread to say "...continue counting from 1".

Thanks.

cjedmonton for my game 15, the game that I scored ended with a no decision. According to baseball-reference, the winning streak is still at 1 on this date because they won their previous game. Is that how you want me to score it still? Either way, it wouldn't affect my score too much either way

It's not my score, but my opponents, so I suppose I can ignore it, but I want to understand in case it happens to me.

The Blue Jays are the A score team and 54 is the B number. They only have 38 seasons, so am I correct in my interpretation that I continue counting from 1 = 39, 2 = 40 and so on. In this example then, 54 = 16 = 1999. Did I get that correct?

No. I am the opponent in question and I believe you counted one too many years (it should be 2010 instead of 1999). If my team is from 2010 then I scored -18.5 runs and should lose the game. cjedmonton can you confirm my math and, if correct, give me a loss to mrmopar?

Juan Gris: yes, your team should have been the 2010 Jays. Thanks for coming forward, as you would have been credited with the win. This is why it's important for us to spot check!

I've had several people contact me asking for an extension this week. I will extend the deadline until 9pm Eastern tomorrow (Feb 3), but going forward, no extensions will be given. I'm afraid it just slows the whole process down, and Monday is really the only day I have to update everything from the previous week. Otherwise, I would just be constantly playing catch-up.

I hope you understand.

The Week 4 thread will be posted shortly...

The deadline extension is EXTREMELY generous of you Chris! I take it the rest of the totals will update after 9pm tomorrow?

To note to all players: I have no problem helping you out with your scoring, but my only clause is I will only do so if you are not in my division and not playing against me for that week. Sounds harsh, but I have to watch out for myself too lol.

No problem, Alex! Busy schedules/lives for everyone, I'm sure.

Yes, everything will be updated after the deadline.

Also very generous of you to lend a hand. Smart move with your special clause!

Man, I don't even know what to say about that one? Need glasses more than ever or massive brain fart. Thanks for the correction.

No. I am the opponent in question and I believe you counted one too many years (it should be 2010 instead of 1999). If my team is from 2010 then I scored -18.5 runs and should lose the game. @cjedmonton can you confirm my math and, if correct, give me a loss to mrmopar?

As much as I'd have liked to take the win it would have felt dirty because I knew the truth. When I saw we had used different games for my score I must have checked my calculation 10 times to make sure I wasn't crazy (the jury is still out).
