Pujols was a first ballot hall of famer if he had retired after leaving St. Louis instead of going to Anaheim.

It's good for him that he is out the rest of the season. He should have been shut down a long time ago. He's just to stubborn to make the call on his own. He wants to be on the field trying to help. But like someone said before, his foot won't heal if he's out there playing on it.

Here are two very interesting stat lines.

99 Games, 373 AB, 103 Hits, 21 Doubles, 16 HR, 62 RBI | .276/.362/.823
99 Games, 391 AB, 101 Hits, 19 Doubles, 17 HR, 64 RBI | .258/.330/.767

The first is ALex Rodriguez in 2011. The second is Albert Pujols in 2013. Eerily similar.

But if those carry out for Albert (yes the avg looks horrible) but even w the injury it's still 30/100. And yes I know they want more than that in LA, but that's with the injury(s). I'm hoping he recovers and plays injury free next year. I think that would bring a .285+/35+/110+. That's just my 37dollars n change

During his time off, if he can get that plantar fasciitis finally taken care of, I expect him to return as dominant as ever. The problem with plantar fasciitis is that there is no way for it to heal when you are active, you will simply be in constant and usually severe pain. As most know, hitting a ball begins from the floor up. If your foot is causing you pain and/or distress, then what you have is what Pujols has been like over the past couple years. It's actually a testament to his talent and determination that he was able to function at all! Hopefully he takes this time off to rest, get some treatment, and learn some techniques to deal with this going forward.

Edit: Oh, and obviously a first ballot, sure fire Hall of Famer. Anyone who disagrees, even playing devils advocate, needs to find a new sport to watch because they clearly have no clue about baseball.

Sorry Mat, not trying to sound like an idiot, just trying to promote discussion on Albert's career.

Pujols is first ballot HOF without a doubt as long as he is never associated with PEDs.

The Angels will find a way to get it together at least 1 or 2 years to make it to the W.S. way to much offensive talent being wasted on that club. They have a huge TV contract in the next few years and the way baseball salaries have increased over the years they will only continue to rise so $30 million in 5 years may not be as much as we think.

Just think what Trout, Machado, Harper and Strasburg will command on the open free agent market when eligible.

I actually will buck the trend and state that Pujols is no longer a lock first ballot kind of player.

Should he be? Yes...but there's a big HOWEVER attached.

The remaining 8 years on his contract account for some of the most salary years in baseball's history and while that's "an Angels problem" it can quickly tarnish some of the shine off of Pujols for 10 seasons. Considering the decline he has shown over the past 3 years, injuries aside, if it continues...that $212 million albatross around the Angels and baseball will be an example of what NOT to do and Pujols will be tied to it. So, does Pujols become a bench warmer making $30 million at 41 walking around with a cane?

Like it or not, albatross contracts don't shine well on baseball.

And a few have mentioned he'll come back next year as strong as ever...does anyone actually believe that? Nothing in his trajectory implies anything other than continued decline.

I honestly believe Albert when he says he won't finish the contract if he is embarrassing himself.

Me? I would. I'd not get a hit 4 years in a row and still stick around and collect 30 million a year. Albert, I don't think he'd do that.

He made a mistake, 100%, by going to Anaheim for all that money. He'll regret it. But it isn't the Cardinals problem anymore.

I mean, cmon people. The guy was, for all intents and purposes, perfectly healthy for 12 MLB seasons in a row before suffering a major injury. ROY, 3 MVP, 4 runner-up MVP, 8 straight ASG (9 total), 6 Silver Sluggers and a couple Golden Gloves to boot.

I will agree, that his career of .320+ BA, and 1.000+ OPS along with the stats above makes him instant first ballot, but those awesome number will decrease now that he's past his "prime".

IF he is able to play through his whole contract- do you think he will maintain a + .300 Career BA?

He could retire now and walk into the Hall. Personally, I'd love to see him come back, struggle and make me feel better about how dominant he was with the Cardinals and against the Reds for all those years.

Over 7,000 ABs and still not even close to 1,000 K's. To me, that right there is hall worthy.
