So maybe these 1/1 DLP Samples aren't really 1/1s after all.

This popped up on COMC tonight:

2005 Leaf Limited Threads Sample Jersey Number [Memorabilia] #161 - Hank Aaron
Courtesy of COMC.com

Looked like a good deal for what should be a 1/1, so I checked ebay, and found this:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/HANK-AARON-...D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2557

Sold back at the end of November, another copy of the same exact card. You can tell it isn't the same exact card, as the position of the SAMPLE stamp is different on each card. I just picked up a bunch of these supposed 1/1s, no other copies of the ones I have were sold recently, but it does kinda make you wonder if these are either being misrepresented or flat-out faked.

The 1/1 may have been an assumption on the part pif the sellers, but I wonder if they are real myself. Well, they are probably real, but some sort of back door thing is likely the case. A couple Garvey cards popped up this past year and I had never seen or heard of them. Someone else bought them for around $100 each, so it is not me wondering about their authenticity.

No one is being naïve, the story on these is that (supposedly) one of each card was printed as a sample for MLB approval. These aren't the same things as the Beckett Samples that were made of the base cards.

My understanding is that they were given to shop owners, so I never expected that there was only 1 of each.

From another thread:

From my understanding as well. They were to be sent to MLB for approval. However, I have heard different stories about how they got out on the market. This is the story as I was told by one of the NE dealers who bought ALL the samples from every card produced from the years 2001-2003. Come to your own conclusion as there is still speculation.

I was informed that an executive from Donruss/Leaf was given these upon his retirement??????? He then sold them to 2 dealers from New York and Connecticut. They are all stamped with the large SAMPLE on them. The sample is a little more wavy or calligraphic than the normal sample which is smaller and were inserts in the Beckett magazines. I bought many of the Braves and Venezuelan Ballplayers and what I have left are on Ebay( Dollarsportscards). They are ALL supposed to be 1/1's. The Dawson and a Dale Murphy are the only cards that I have heard of to be claimed to be a second card of. I continually have checked for these and NEVER have seen a second card of any others. Years ago I had many different Vizquels and Galarraga. I have neither now. Still have a handful of Chipper/Maddux and Glavine. They are legit, however I had been told that, about 7 or 8 years ago Beckett will not grade or acknowledge them. Maybee that has changed.

Turns out the Aarons had surfaced before on COMC, I noticed them before but completely forgot about it.
