Derrick Williams, PF, MIN[/center:249tpgma]
ESPN Fantasy: One of the most talented players in this year's draft, Williams is an aggressive rebounder and finisher in traffic with a soft mid-range jump shot. A phenomenal athlete and well-rounded scorer, Williams is an NBA-ready talent with potential to be a big fantasy star. He may not start immediately unless Michael Beasley is traded, but he will make an impact from the start in Minnesota even if he comes off the bench. Look for Williams to be a contributor in scoring, rebounds, steals and blocks as a rookie, but temper your expectations unless Beasley is moved.

Kyrie Irving, PG, CLE[/center:249tpgma]
ESPN Fantasy: Irving has great court vision, the physical tools to get to the rim, the range to keep defenses honest and the defensive acumen to rack up steals. After missing all but 11 games at Duke as a frosh because of a toe injury, we don't know if his health will be a long-term issue. He's not a physical freak of nature like Derrick Rose or John Wall, but you don't need to be a freak to rack up fantasy stats. You just need opportunity. Irving should have plenty of that, despite the presence of Baron Davis and Ramon Sessions. He may not explode as a rookie, but you can expect him to be a fantasy contributor as soon as he earns a starting job, which likely will be in training camp.

kemba-bobcats.jpg

Kemba Walker, PG, CHA[/center:249tpgma]
ESPN Fantasy: Pundits can discuss the value of heart when describing players like Walker, but we fantasy folk know that statistics are the only values that matter. So while he led UConn to the NCAA title last season, he was just 11-of-34 from the field and 1-of-9 from 3-point range in the Final Four. Since he shot just 42.8 percent in his breakout college campaign (and 40.3 percent in 2009-10), it's safe to assume he's going to shoot a rough percentage as an NBA rookie. If he can unseat incumbent PG starter D.J. Augustin, though, Walker should take enough shots to score in the teens. That should come with some dimes, 3s and steals, making him a worthwhile fantasy option. If not, he'll be limited by a time-share.

[center:249tpgma]

Ricky Rubio, PG, MIN[/center:249tpgma]
ESPN Fantasy: Rubio was a big topic of conversation during the Beijing Olympics in the summer of 2008 and an even bigger topic of conversation when he was selected with the fifth overall pick in the 2009 draft. After he spent a few years overseas, the Rubio hype machine has died down considerably and many scouts have commented that he has not progressed the way they hoped he would. But Rubio still has the passing skills that made him a prodigy, and he'll have some scoring weapons in Kevin Love, Michael Beasley and Derrick Williams to fill the lanes. Given how long the Wolves waited for him, he should earn plenty of minutes in his rookie season and will be a fantasy asset for assists and steals immediately.

Who you got?

Against my better judgment, I'm picking Rubio. He's got the opportunity to start, and falls into a system that may be perfect for his skills. With Love's excellent rebounding and amazing outlet passes they could push the fast break with Rubio receiving the passes. That lets him use his speed to get some easy layups or to dish off to an open man on 2 on 1 opportunities.

Beyond that, I don't see some of the big guys in the draft making the transition to the NBA right away. I'd consider Kemba Walker or Fredette, but Walker's shooting worries me and Fredette is going to have to fight for opportunity.

For the betting odds or you really think someone outside the top 10-12 will get it?

Since this draft class is pretty weak I could see someone coming out of nowhere and being just good enough to edge out the other guys, but I would have a hard time picking that. It takes both talent and opportunity to win the award, and I'm not sure many players in this draft have both.

No way its Rubio in my opinion. Id say Irving because hes the only one right now who will get the minutes needed to get ROY stats.
Williams wont even start. And the Timber wolves have to many guards.

Id say Kemba second because of the Bobcats lack of guards.

Exactly what I was thinking. I see an unexpected guy in a good spot with PT sneaking in and stealing it with good stats. Kinda like Landry Fields was doing last year until the 'Melo trade...

Maybe JuJuan Johnson (NJ) or Chris Singleton (Wash) and I like both of the Kings' 2nd Rounders, Honeycut and Isiah Thomas. ;)

And I see ALOT of 2nd year guys stepping up. Hopefully, Jordan Crawford is one of 'em! :D

I wouldn't bet against Kemba Walker.

I don't see any reason why he can't throw this team on his back at times too.......he'll have a bunch of big 4th quarters and game-winning shots that can help him win the award even if his stats aren't mind-blowing.

If Boston decides to rest KG on the 2nd night of back to backs and limit his playing time in other games, they may end up having to rely heavily on Johnson. That's a good pick, even if you listed the wrong team. :P

I like him too, but if he wasn't a great shooter in college he's mostly likely going to be even worse in the NBA. I don't think he's Rondo bad, but if he can attack the basket and get buckets inside then he doesn't need to be a great shooter.

I'm not happy with the Rubio pick, but it's what my gut is saying.

Anyway, the Wolves currently list him as the starting PG on their depth chart. They've also talked about playing JJ and Ridnour at SG alongside Rubio at times. I think the opportunity is there, just not sure if the talent is after a down year last year and then having the Europe to NBA transition.

I think a big part of his bad shooting nights was because he was forced to be a volume shooter. He had to take a lot of bad shots to try to bail the team out, especially in the middle of the season when the Freshman disappeared for a bit.
What I did like was his ability to create separation to get his shot, his ability to run the pick and roll, and his ability to finish at the basket......all things you look for and bode well for him when projecting him to the next level.

And if all that fails and he isn't a great shooter......I can see him as a sort of NBA-Tebow. He could be 2-12, yet hit the big shots in the 4th qtr. to win the game.
Can't wait to actually see these guys on the court, so all of this isn't theoretical. :)

Rubio and the Wolves looked pretty good this weekend. Kevin Love is an absolute beast. He rebounds effortlessly, is a great passer, and can play inside and out.

Just a pre-season game.......but after one game Kemba made us both look right.

4-13 shooting, but 18 points and he had a +16 +/-

Also hit two shots in the final minute, each giving the Bobcats back the lead.

For the odds, I love Kawhi Lonard. Just like Dejuan Blair he is going to fit a system terrifically and surprise a lot of people. He will rebound and hit open shots for a contending team.
