MJ 97-98 Leaf PMetal Gems sells for 41,000 in Auction

i know mj inserts go for alot , but what
about these precious gem cards makes
it go for 40,000+

its a cool lookin card but am i missing
something? only bgs 9.5 graded

yeah but normally these sell for 20 grand or so raw or bgs 8.5 and a little more bgs 9, the reason for such a high price is because of the condition, the edges of these cards are almost always messed up because of the foil on it so getting a 9.5 is almost impossible which is the reason for the crazy price...i would much rather have something autographed by the player but i understand why they are so sought after considering they are alot different than serial numbered cards made now

There are various debates going on about newly graded MJ cards as of recent. The topic includes many sketch grades on cards like this one. This card was bought by Natsturner. He inturn picked up a better version of the card and re sold this one. It was slabbed authentic and now has come back as a 9. People believe it possible was trimmed. There is now way this card should get a 8.5 on edges looking at the bottom of the card is major chipping.

As for the BGS 9.5 MJ PMG. The card was questioned for being trimmed. I dont know if it actually sold as the winner was supposedly Natsturner on the auction. He has yet to state whether it was purcahsed or not.
