This week's topic of discussion; 1997 BOWMAN CHROME

Please post scans/photos of anything you have in relation to 1997 Bowman Chrome, ebay links to deals/steals or past sales, links to unopened product for sale and/or general discussion of the product.

1997 Bowman Chrome is the inaugural edition set that started the whole "Bowman Chrome" sensation that is still a hobby staple to this day. The set includes the best possible rookie cards of Roy Halladay, Adrian Beltre, Aramis Ramirez, R.A. Dickey, Lance Berkman, Jayson Werth, Eric Chavez, Vernon Wells, Jason Marquis, Jake Westbrook, Bruce Chen, Alex Gonzalez, Mark Kotsay, Adam Kennedy, Octavio Dotel, Miguel Tejada and Kerry Wood.

Key inserts/parallels to look for: Although there were no autographs in the base set or inserted, the 1 per-box International Refractor parallels that parallel the entire 300-card base set are the most sought-after "rookie card year" cards of many of the rookies from the set and are extremely popular with collectors as they are the key cards to have from the 1997 Bowman Chrome product. The 2 per-box Refractor parallels that parallel the entire 300-card base set are also very popular. The last insert/parallel set I'll mention is the 1998 ROY Favorites Refractor parallels which are inserted 1 per-72 packs and are a parallel of the 15-card 1998 ROY Favorites insert set. Players worth mentioning in that set are Paul Konerko, Todd Helton and a rookie card of Mark Kotsay.

All-in-all, 1997 Bowman Chrome was the start of an amazing pedigree, contains some great rookie cards including future Hall of Famer Halladay, has fantastic parallels and is an aesthetically beautiful set that should stand the hobby test of time.

97 International Refractors are the bomb - very well designed. And the Kerry Wood card was so hot here in Chicago. Good set memories.

I remember these being 20$ a pack in Chicago shortly after Kerry Wood had his 20K game

One of my all time favorite tests. The Kerry Wood card went insane that year. Other prospect rookie cards which carried the product in 1997 included Hideki Irabu, Travis Lee, and my personal favorite Jose Cruz Jr.

Loved this set as a kid, and still love it today. Solid set of rookies in there and a clean design. And probably my favorite international refractor set ever. Actually busted a box of this not too long ago.
