Ha, forgot all about this thread. One things for damn certain: there sure as EFF wasn’t anyone even remotely considering serial numbering a card as low as 50 in 1996. That’s the biggest damn tell here

For those of you who enjoy reading threads like this, I stumbled on an awesome story on a BO thread recently.

About 5 years ago a collector had outed this guy Tony Podsada on his blog for selling stacks of obvious forgeries, like Mantle autos etc. Then Podsada got on the comments for a long back-and-forth about how all his stuff was legit, and how he was being slandered, and how he was going to sue, yada yada. It was classic pathological lying, dissembling, and accusing, internet-style. What we have here in this resurrected thread is not the same thing, but I am at least smelling whiffs of a similar stench.

Fast forward to 2018, and Podsada gets a police escort away from his table at the National for selling his forgeries...

Here's the BO thread

I went back and reread the thread from the beginning. I had forgotten about it myself. I think it is funny that someone who feels their reputation is being tarnished would revive a 5 year old thread, doing nothing more than to bring MORE ATTENTION to the thread now that most people have long forgotten. I saw that I linked the ebay store of the seller originally and that link still worked today.

https://www.ebay.com/str/grouchyoldmanbaseballcards

Looks at what he is selling now and if there was any doubt before, it should be crystal clear after viewing their current offerings. This person is dealing with (and I didn't wade through even 1/10th of the listing, so this is a ballpark guess) probably 75% or more of their listings in fantasy cards that are unlicensed. Now I don't blame someone for selling this type of stuff, but only if they do it openly and honestly. For example, I did see a Lemke custom that was mentioned by name in one listing. Bob originally sold those cards openly as fantasy pieces, but his creations have since been reproduced and sold by others as cheaper knock-offs. I even had one guy selling copies of a custom card a buddy of mine made specifically for me that I shared online (my bad for not watermarking it I guess). ***** just took the image and made a cheap computer copy version of the card and was selling them. In his defense, I did ask him to stop and he appeared to have stopped.

Jury is still out of this guy in my opinion though. The listings would have you believe most of this stuff was issued in some unique way, like a legit card set or food issue, but I would be willing to bet whoever made them did so to sell online exclusively with a very limited number of "distributors". Picture someone having a batch of cards printed up themselves (like Lemke did) and then having their buddy sell them online as something "special". I am betting most of this stuff was never available anywhere but online and from select sellers only until some possibly have been resold later by an original buyer or perhaps if a collection was parted out and these were part of it.

People are buying up the custom/ACEO/Broder stuff like never before these days and those sellers grabbing a piece of that market are pretty smart to do so. Some of the nicer custom cards are now bringing many $100s (Banty Red for example). I have to assume most buyers understand what they are getting and are willing to pay those kinds of prices for them. If there are buyers being fooled in today's market, especially if the seller isn't trying some shady crap, well...then, buyer beware and smarten up about what you are spending your money on! I consider them small pieces of art and will pay a certain amount for items I like the look and quality of.

In the end, I have never seen a Garvey item offered by this guy though.

The accusation of shill bidding is also false. Over the years, eBay has developed measures that prevent this from happening.

At this point in the post, my eyes rolled so far back into my head that I am now blind. My lawyer is transcribing this message as he prepares a lawsuit.

Come in here, dear boy, have a cigar,
You're gonna go far,
You're gonna fly high,
You're never gonna die,
You're gonna make it if you try,
They're gonna love you.
I've always had a deep respect and I mean that most sincere;
The band is just fantastic, that is really what I think,
Oh, by the way, which one's Pink?

Yeah this feels like this card all over funny how these popped up recently after collecting him for all these years. Not interested in buying cards saying printed in 1992 to 1994 when they were actually printed in 2018 or 2019

Now, I just have to find an attorney who will take a case in Tampa Florida against the OP and against the owner of this forum.Best wishes, GrouchyOldMan

Is there a “My sincere apology to grouchyoldman and Brian Gray” thread, or have I just missed it?

I know Brian Gray isn’t involved in this thread, but I really do feel that he can’t be apologized to enough. Please don’t sue me Brian.

For some reason now I can't get the name of the band Aldo Nova out of my head.

Just in case you're interested, Aldo Nova was not the name of the band, it was the name of the guy!

My mind was blown when I recently learned that. And this entire thread is interesting as hell, even in 2020.

If anyone wants some super rare cards, not only of Aldo Nova but of anything or anyone ever, I have them all. My manufacturer buddies let me know of micro product launches, which never gain traction, so I track them down, and buy them. All of them.

I have obtained a full set of all these cards. Every card ever made in these micro releases. All are limited to just 3, I say, just 3 cards each!

Just let me know what specific Aldo Nova card you want, like what pose, what font, what date on the card, (or any other card of anyone or anything, that's my guarantee) and I will find it for you! Limited edition!

Remember, these are limited to just 3 of each card! They are genuinely real once made!

Well since we are reviving this saga again...let’s bump this up shall we to prevent Ernest from taking up the SEO with his new thread.

This is truly the story that never ends....

Thanks,
Jeff
