Today, the 09/10 UD Hockey Champ’s box came in from Upper Deck. I somehow managed to win the box from the Upper Deck Blog. I got a nice letter from Chris Carlin, congratulating me and thanking me for following UD Facebook. As someone who wants to get into the field of marketing, I noticed that Chris Carlin’s title was “Sports Marketing Manager”. Talk about sweet job, I envy you Mr.Carlin! I would like to greatly thank the people at UD for hooking me up. Being a student, I rarely bust boxes so this was a lot of fun. To be honest, I mainly collect baseball, but sometimes I dabble in other sports. I mean I watch hockey (Go Blackhawks), but I just never picked up a lot of cards. I was glad in a way for this box because it opened a collecting focus into hockey. Man NHL cards are pretty sweet! I'm in the process of going after the Base set.

So here’s some info regarding 09/10 Hockey Champs

-20 packs a box
-5 cards per pack
- 5 rookies per box
- 4 hits per box
- 1 Yellow, 2 Red, and 5 Green cards per box. (variation set)
- 2 mini cards per box
- You can also get one of those mega cool Museum Pieces cards which have like pieces of dinosaur bone and stuff.

- The box has a freaking dinosaur on it!
- The packs have a freaking dinosaur on them too!
- Tons of random inserts like “Wonders of the World”
- Bunch of mini cards
- It’s kind of like Allen and Ginter + UD Goodwin goes hockey

Ok here’s what I pulled.

My thoughts: Overall this seems like a fantastic product to bust. It was a lot of fun opening compared to other products. The wide arrange of different cards keep it interesting. The Green, Red, and Yellow variations are a nice add. I’m kinda a fan of #ed cards and seeing that there were no #ed cards kinda sucked. I wish that maybe the yellow ones would be numbered? It was nice seeing a vide range of legends in the product. It was cool pulling a Bobby Hull or a Mike Bossy. To be honest, the thought of having mini rookie cards is kind of new. It’s interesting seeing RC get minis instead of normal sized cards. The Relics and Autograph cards were cool being “Mini-ized” I just don’t know if the player had to edit a signature, because of space though. The mini Relics cards are sick nevertheless. The Hull Parkhurst card was pretty neat along with the Scotty Bowman Memorabilia card. I wouldn’t mind another box from Upper Deck :D.

What are your thoughts on the box break? How did I do? I think the Tavares RC, Hull Parkhurst, and Bowman Suit were good pulls? Feel free to add and ask anything! Help a hockey noob out.

once again congrats on winning the Champs box. I must say you did a great job with review. as for the break I think it was pretty solid. the Tavares, JVR, the Hull Parkhurst, the Pietrangelo auto, Mullen mini jersey and the Bowman mini suit card are all very nice pulls. it seems that you also have almost a full base set out of the box. are you going to try to complete it?

it always nice to hear someone who doesn't open hockey cards say how much they enjoyed their break.

Thanks, I'm glad you enjoyed reading it. It only took me like 2 hours to get everything done  . Yeah opening the box was awesome. I think that I may go after the set considering that I'm kinda close to the finish. I gotta find the BVs.

Nice write up and decent break. I like the Tavares RC, the Bowman suit swatch is really nice as is the Alex Pietrangelo autograph.

Any time you get a Tavares rookie, the break starts off good. Great review.

Thanks man. He's was the #1 pick right? Does he just get that hype for being #1, or is there actually a talent there?

he was indeed the number 1 pick and he definitely has a ton of talent.
