I think Missy, Owen Sound and St John all dodged a bullet when Portland was upset by Kootenay.

On paper, I'd say St John has the most talent, but they're a year from being untouchable (and if they could keep the band together for next year - which they can't - they'd hit a wall when they played Portland anyway). Their best players are 92s and 93s, and it's hard to win a Mem Cup when you're relying on your 17 and 18 year olds.

Missy is relatively well-coached and they've been getting good production from their entire lineup, but DSP has been lights out. Justin Shugg hasn't been as clutch as he has been in the past.

Owen Sound has more heart than any team in the tournament. Hishon is the best player in the tournament, but he hasn't done that much in the playoffs - while he's tied for the OHL lead in points, his scoring has been relatively invisible. Maidens was the star of the OHL Finals, while Mignardi has been a complete stud throughout the playoffs. Owen Sound's downfall is their goaltending - they've basically got three starters, and all three have "won" the starting job from one another at some point in the playoffs.

Kootenay is built for the playoffs, and that shows with their improbable upsets over Saskatoon, Medicine Hat and Portland. For those who don't know, Portland and Saskatoon were the two best teams in the WHL this past season, and Medicine Hat was not far off. Those were three monumental upsets.

Should be a good Mem Cup. I don't know if I'll go or not. I was just there for the OHL Finals last week. I'll definitely watch on NHL Network though.

Well this sucks, the Kootenay Ice have dropped their first two games of the Memorial Cup. Losing today by the score of 2-1 to the host Mississauga.

the Saint John Sea Dogs will win it all

Monday's game is probably the most important match of the preliminary round if Hishon comes back. If Hishon is healthy, it will go a long way toward figuring out which team is the best in the tournament.

the Saint John Sea Dogs are the 2011 Mastercard Memorial Cup Champions. they won the Championship Game 3-1.

Penguins prospect and their 2009 1st Round Draft pick scored the opening goal 2:24 into the game with a Shorthanded goal. Sea Dogs goalie Jacob DeSerres stopped 34 of 35 shots and earned the Number 1 Star.
