2014 Donruss Classics - Anyone else disappointed??

The only plus for me is that they have a few new HOF relics - but besides that I have not seen anything that really says wow. But on the other hand I guess this wasn't hyped as a high-end product (like NT) but I was expected some nicer patches, etc.

What do you guys think?

I was just looking to post about it.
So I busted 2 cases this weekend and I have to say I'm in the middle on it. I got some really nice cards in it, some others that should do well, and a bunch of meh. I doubt I make my money back on it, only next Sunday's end to the auction block will tell that tale.
Here's what I got: (remember, this is from 2 cases, highlights) (ebay user: dragsy if you guys want to check out the entire line up of hits from 2 cases)

I'm happy with the Dawson cards I have seen out of the product so far, but I didn't bust any, just picking them up second hand. My disappointment is that Dawson wasn't in the base set or inserts

Dude, 2 cases, not a single Dawson. I was a bit surprised. Hell, the Helton and Konerko autos I pulled were rarer on the whole than the Dawsons.

From a player collector perspective I understand the excitement. As HOF relics are more of my niche - if you can call it that - I'm happy with those cards as well. I just wish there some more high-end but again I don't know if it was advertised as that so I guess I'll just have to wait for 2014 NT. I've seen some nice Dawsons on eBay btw from this!

All the best in liquidating them - I hope you turn a profit! Please don't take my post wrong, but some of the hits are what I'm talking about. That 1/1 Robinson is just stamped 1/1 hence all of it's value - there's nothing special about that card compared to other Robinson base relics. Same with the Rose and even the other low numbered auto jerseys - it's just something that was done time and time and time again. The design isn't bad but I wouldn't call it beautiful.

Again nothing against your stuff I truly hope I don't offend you it's just that I'm someone who gets frustrated by a 1/1 or /5 stamp when there is nothing unique or even terribly eye appealing about the items.

I agree but also I dint see it advertised as high end like you said. I think there are some sick pieces they just have not been posted or pulled yet and im gonna assume the odd of pulling a super nice piece are much harder in this product as say NT.

By the way this is the best card I have seen to date out of 2014 classics

Agreed - and that's a really nice Ted but nothing to write home about IMO but again that's comparing it to something on the NT level. I was honestly just expecting more high-end HOF pieces like I said but it may not have been the direction this product was intended to head.

I 100% agree with you about being somewhat disappointed, As for the Ted its not super special but its something that has not been done before (Atleast very much) and not even something that was in Last years NT. As far as I know this had been the Only outer Barrel bat pieces that I have seen From Classic. Immaculate had a player with the outer Bat piece that was a 1/1. With that said, yes still disappointing.

No I agree, it's definitely a cool piece and seems like a possible jacket patch even. Unfortunately I saw others #/10 that were not the outer piece of the bat so it makes me think that this was done on accident rather than to intentionally make the piece nicer. I'm not sure too many collectors outside of me and you would really think that that was much cooler than a normal bat piece :lol:
