A few years back when frustration had finally become anger you stepped up and started one terrific sports message board. (I know thats not EXACTLY how it started but for dramatic effect it’s what I’m using.

Well now the writing on the wall has become perfectly clear as to what your next venture NEEDS to be.

The time has come Mr. Gilmore-------The time has come for you to purchase and make a success of The Upper Deck Company. Laugh all you want my little nay sayers but why not---and if not now? When?

With the connections you have established over the last 2 years, support for you would be a given.

Maybe I have written this little letter in jest----but Im only 30% joking. So Mr. Gilmore for the good of the sports card community---Step up! And make this happen.

And now…. back to my Scotch…

With the design abilities of people here, along with the hobby intelligence, it's not too far-fetched.

Either you guys seriously under estimate the value of the UD brand name...

Or you over estimate that thickness of my wallet.

Start your own brand.

Do what Razor did, but stick with it. I'm sure you'd have a very large following, and the resources to create sufficient hype.

Regardless, any possibility would be limited based on, as you said, the thickness of your wallet (though you could do it collaboratively).

Buying "Upper Deck" from The Upper Deck Company would cost $100,000,000,000.

I'm not sure where the true value in a company like Upper Deck would be, but probably the name is the most valuable. That said, I don't think Upper Deck's current books would look like a prime investment candidate.

Oh...and I can think of two people on these boards that could possibly scrape up the credit to take on such a purchase...and both are two smart for that.

I would assume that you could buy the name and not the company. Which would give you no liability in fixing the bad books.

It should only cost you around $62.5 million to buy the company. That's assuming their books aren't as messed up as people think they are.
