I'm not sure this matters or not, but you do realize that Dylan was sort of paraphrasing a famous blues legend regarding Robert Johnson and the crossroads here....intentionally. He doesn't litterarly think he sold his soul to the devil.....

(Nor is it likely that he actually believes in the concept of a "devil" or "satan"......this was VERY figurative and sort of an homage to what many consider the most influential moment in pop music history. One that he was DIRECTLY influenced by)
What exactly leads you to believe Dylan is paraphrasing anyone? And what leads you to the conclusions you make? Have you listened to his music? Read some lyrics. Start here: BOB DYLAN LYRICS - Gotta Serve Somebody

"Gotta Serve Somebody"

You may be an ambassador to England or France
You may like to gamble, you might like to dance
You may be the heavyweight champion of the world
You may be a socialite with a long string of pearls.

But you're gonna have to serve somebody, yes indeed
You're gonna have to serve somebody,
It may be the devil or it may be the Lord
But you're gonna have to serve somebody.

Might be a rock'n' roll adict prancing on the stage
Might have money and drugs at your commands, women in a cage
You may be a business man or some high degree thief
They may call you Doctor or they may call you Chief.

But you're gonna have to serve somebody, yes indeed
You're gonna have to serve somebody,
Well, it may be the devil or it may be the Lord
But you're gonna have to serve somebody.

You may be a state trooper, you might be an young turk
You may be the head of some big TV network
You may be rich or poor, you may be blind or lame
You may be living in another country under another name.

But you're gonna have to serve somebody, yes
You're gonna have to serve somebody,
Well, it may be the devil or it may be the Lord
But you're gonna have to serve somebody.

You may be a construction worker working on a home
You may be living in a mansion or you might live in a dome
You might own guns and you might even own tanks
You might be somebody's landlord you might even own banks.

But you're gonna have to serve somebody, yes
You're gonna have to serve somebody,
Well, it may be the devil or it may be the Lord
But you're gonna have to serve somebody.

You may be a preacher with your spiritual pride
You may be a city councilman taking bribes on the side
You may be working in a barbershop, you may know how to cut hair
You may be somebody's mistress, may be somebody's heir.

But you're gonna have to serve somebody, yes
You're gonna have to serve somebody,
Well, it may be the devil or it may be the Lord
But you're gonna have to serve somebody.

Might like to wear cotton, might like to wear silk
Might like to drink whiskey, might like to drink milk
You might like to eat caviar, you might like to eat bread
You may be sleeping on the floor, sleeping in a king-sized bed.

But you're gonna have to serve somebody, yes indeed
You're gonna have to serve somebody,
It may be the devil or it may be the Lord
But you're gonna have to serve somebody.

You may call me Terry, you may call me Jimmy
You may call me Bobby, you may call me Zimmy
You may call me R.J., you may call me Ray
You may call me anything but no matter what you say.

You're gonna have to serve somebody, yes indeed
You're gonna have to serve somebody,
Well, it may be the devil or it may be the Lord
But you're gonna have to serve somebody.

Because his name is Robert Zimmerman, he was bar-mitzvahed, grew up in a tight-knit Jewish community, became a born-again.....and the mere fact he isn't a idiot. And the question posed to him was about why he's continued to stay relelvant throughout his career and how he's done so for so long. His statement about selling himself is a CLEAR metaphor as Robert Johnson allegedly sold his soul to the devil to be able to play. What he's saying here is that he continues to give back to his fans as he has been blessed by this gift all his life and there are more important things than retiring and living happily ever after.

(I was starting to feel sorry for you, but you really are a tool who just likes to argue. Don't ask me "Have you ever listened to his music." I'VE MET THE MAN. And frankly if you think Dylan is being literral you need to return to Freshman High-school English classes)

Here. Educate yourself before you just spout off about everything.

"There's no doubt that the entertainment industry is being used to brainwash, dumb-down and demoralize young people. Do I think Bob Dylan worships the devil? No. What you have here is a man that is well schooled in the mythology of the blues. His "deal with the devil" is no more than an homage to legendary bluesman Robert Johnson. From Wikipedia:

"According to legend, as a young man living on a plantation in rural Mississippi, Robert Johnson was branded with a burning desire to become a great blues musician. He was "instructed" to take his guitar to a crossroad near Dockery Plantation at midnight. There he was met by a large black man (the Devil) who took the guitar and tuned it. The "Devil" played a few songs and then returned the guitar to Johnson, giving him mastery of the instrument. This was, in effect, a deal with the Devil mirroring the legend of Faust. In exchange for his soul, Robert Johnson was able to create the blues for which he became famous."

Bob Dylan is a scholar, a complicated man, and a master of the arts. His talents and wide knowledge of music and literature enable him to write about all kinds of ideas and experiences, and to see them from every angle. There may be a few references to the devil, but he has also written a number of songs praising God and Jesus. His conversion to born again Christianity is well documented and he even recorded two religious themed albums.

Lady Gaga and Christina Aguilera might have a masonic agenda, or be tools for those who have the very worst intentions for humanity. But, to oversimplify the life and work of Bob Dylan and label him as a "devil worshipper", or to speak of him in the same breath as today's spiritually/intellectually bankrupt pop musician whose entire purpose is to keep young people distracted from the fine ideas of the mind, to me, is shoddy journalism."

"I made a bargain with the _______ long time ago, and I'm holding up my end," Dylan said.
"What was your bargain?"
"To get where I am now," Dylan said.
"May I ask who you made the 'bargain' with?"
"You know, (stumbling), ...with the Chief Commander," Dylan said.
"On this earth?"
"On this earth and in the world we can't see," Dylan said.

Conclude as you see fit. Insults not needed or warranted. If you can't hear it from the horse's mouth, you won't hear it at all.

Also, was "Gotta Serve Somebody" without meaning to Dylan? Just a bunch of gobbledy-gook nonsense? Or did he believe what he was writing and singing?

No, it's not conclude as you see fit. Your're just wrong and you obviously have no knowledge of the history of blues in America.

Alright, the jig is up. Who's alt account is bmp1971?
There's no way this guy's for real, and if he is, he's trolling us bigtime.
He's unbelievably gullable and stubborn, yet knows to be passive aggressive enough so he won't get suspended for blowing up at the board's near universal mockery of him.
Well played, bmp1971.
