RC vs XRC? Once the MLBPA got involved, the distinction seems to have been lost, along with the traditional definition of what a rookie card was.

It is somewhat surprising that "wax" is still widely used, despite there not being any actual new wax packs in something like 20 years.

It seems like certain terms have a specific cutoff where they are still valid before that date, but no longer used after that date. Maybe 1990 or 1991...whenever Topps started issuing Traded sets in packs.

I think 1991 Topps/Fleer/Donruss were the last sets issued in paper wrappers sealed with wax.

I remember Beckett finally dropping that whole XRC thing in 1989 because Upper Deck issued their update set in packs (the "high numbers" mixed with regular set cards). The hobby really didn't want to be told that the ultra-hot Jerome Walton card wasn't a RC.

Vending Box - Topps doesn't issue loose cards for vending machines any longer
Chase Card - fell out of favor for "insert" or "parallel" card

I know this isn't in line with what you guys were referring to but I haven't heard someone reference their pull as MOJO recently - which is great..

"Chase card" was so prevalent that Leaf tried issuing Leaf Rookies and Chase as a set before the MLBPA made them change it to Rookies and Stars...

Toning. Modern cards don't have "tone."
From a dealer "Yes, I've been needing to restock 1988 Donruss"
