I'm very familiar with basketball as a sport but not the card collecting aspect.

I prefer to collect some Blake Griffin (who isn't right?) But I am unfamiliar with which brand to go with. My budget is another concern I would like to spend as close to$50 per hobby box if possible.

Any help is appreciated!

Trust me, Blake Griffin is EXPENSIVE.

A few weeks back I traded off my run of Prestige rookies for some baseball, but the entire run was selling on ebay for $30.

But if you can get some Prestige blasters from last year clearance'd off, you are good to go

Hi TBTwisFan,

Yeah I've been doing a little research and its expensive hunting for Blake.

What is the equivalent of a 2010 Bowman Chrome Hobby Baseball in the Basketball product? I'd like to get redemption wrappers + 1 AUTO and spend around $50.

Thanks!

mmmmm.... you aren't going to find anything like that. Most don't do wrapper redemptions (that I know of) and the better rookie stuff runs over $50. You might be able to get a box of Topps for that.

One thing you need to know though, is Bowman Chrome usually runs for $70 and up. This was just an off year.

I personally love Prestige basketball. IMO, it's the equivalent of Bowman Chrome. Just from retail, I hit 2-3 autos (one was a Tyler Hansborough, a $60 card at the time) and 2 jerseys, not to mention a ton of cool parallels/inserts. Threads had some solid stuff last year too.

basketball products are overpriced

last year by the end the season everything went down and all the good rc auto products (Contender or classics) were like 50, but with blake griffin last years products are real expensive

the best rc auto product so far this year is contenders which is 95ish and u get 4 autos and john wall autos from that product are like 100 (so u really don't even make money getting the best rc), i suggest staying with singles

Basketball the last coupla years is all about the high-end, "high risk-high reward" kind of stuff. It's kinda hard to find to find a good value-packed product IMO.

The only hoops cards I've done recently was some 09-10 Topps that I got at a very good price.

Panini products have really crashed in price post-season the last coupla years. It's just that with Griffin's explosion last years' stuff went way back up. If you look around on the auction site (or similar) it shouldn't be hard to find something recent you'll like for your Price range, but you might still have trouble getting your $$$ back. Crown Royale might be worth waiting for when the price goes down, for instance.

But I'd still recommend just sticking to buying singles. 8-)

I woulnt bust any product unless you find thrill in busting packs and collecting. Best way to go is to buy singles.

If you are going to bust wax, Id stick Panini National treasures, Timeless Treasures and Gold standard. Ill bust a case of gold standard this year just because of how well it did in football with the gold plates.

The main focus in basketball recently has been on hot rookies and 90s inserts of franchise players. Anytime the crop of rookies goes soft or the product generally looks like garbage, many collectors start focusing on older sets. The real focus has been on 90s inserts and paralells lately.
