I don't normally sell any cards other than to buy more cards, but I just spent some PayPal on chips at 7-11 and was wondering if anyone ever sold cards to buy something else. A TV... a car... pack of gum?

Sure, I was selling my Wieters aspirations autos. Had 5 of them and was making a cash transaction. Took the $900 right to the dealership to pay for brakes.

About 6 weeks ago I got a Brady Quinn Xfractor Green auto from a pack of Finest Football. Sold it for 200 and the following day bought the wife a glider for the baby room, that was half off. It is now refered to as the "Brady Quinn chair"

There have been threads in the past of people claiming to sell off a stash of player "X" to pay for their wedding or down payment on a house.

Made a nice stack a few months ago selling some stuff. Paid a lot of bills and took my wife out for a nice dinner.

Cards I have been selling lately have been being invested into mutual funds. With the market down so much I feel it is a great time to invest

The opposite, actually. I come across computers that are in very good shape and either get them free or relatively cheap. I turn around and sell them on eBay when I can (after cleaning and testing), and usually spend the money on sports cards. I do pay bills if I have any with the money, freeing up paychecks :)

Funny. Back in the 1997 timeframe, I had a Beanie Baby source and sold $5,000 worth at card shows over a 6-month time period to help on the down payment of my house.

I sold my Chris Davis gold refractors and used the money to buy Thanksgiving dinner for a homeless shelter in my area. It was worth it to see the smiles on everyone's faces, even if it was just for a day.

Used the profits from 2005 BDP singles (grading raw cards I bought off ebay) to buy my wife a laptop, desk, and desk chair.

I don't remember everything, but I know I sold 6 9.5 Ryan Zimmerman cards for $150-200 each (paid $60-70 each raw) and sold a 9.5 Ryan Braun gold refractor for $800 (paid $198 delivered for it).

Made $45k in 4 months selling 03-04 UD Exquisite basketball singles to a Master Set Collector in PR.

Couldn't tell you specifically what bill(s) were paid. I can say that a good chunk was put away for each of my two daughters.
