Pretty tired after a long day, not the best of days at all. Woke up to our septic system backing up, and then I had an eye appointment and need a slightly stronger prescription (need to stop buying cards so I can afford them LOL), not to mention driving to the bank then home was really difficult with dilated pupils (really sunny, don't have sunglasses sadly), than I had to help clean up the mess in our basement, and nearly had an accident coming home from the pizza house temporarily losing control after hitting a puddle that was freezing over. So with that said, you guys came here for my mailday, and here it is. :) (Sorry for the rant  )

My very first 1915 Cracker Jack (yes, I can make cheesy titles as well =P)....I did not realize how thin these cards are! Thought I was going to bend the card in half taking it out of the case, lol. An absolute beauty in person though, I would have liked a Bill Carrigan instead, but you gotta love the catching pose.

:D

Forrest "Hick" Cady, who played 6 seasons with the Red Sox as a catcher, won 3 World Series with them. Not much of a hitter, but that makes an affordable prewar pickup.

FORREST CADY

Also should have another sweet card coming in later this week or early next week, one I have needed for quite some time!

Thanks for looking,
-Scott

Forgot to mention that I got the card @ Californiasportscards.com, and got 10% from their monthly code which is why I finally purchased it. Not sure if it works for new customers but I don't see why not, just type in "March" in the coupon box during the month of March. And no, I do not work for them I just thought anyone who is into vintage cards might like to check them out. I purchased this card Friday night (11pm) and it arrived today from CA, pretty quick shipping if I do say so myself.

Damn I love those cracker jack cards, the red background just pops.

Great pickup
Thanks, the red background really stands out in person! Hopefully I can add another one later this year...

Thanks a ton Dave! I am most definitely going to get it slabbed, hopefully along with a handful of other Red Sox cards. This one is too thin not to have adequate protection.

The basement is all cleaned out now, just can't use any water until tomorrow night. I hope that it is just backed up from all of the rain we got, and it will hold up until we put in a new leach field this spring. As for the glasses they said I can use my frames I have, so it should be a lot cheaper. I am definitely going to pay extra for the anti-glare lenses because driving at night with the ones I have is a bit iffy so I usually try not to.

you definitely need to slab it just for the protection.

I have to wear glasses at night to drive and I love the anti-glare.

Awesome pickup, Scotty!
The first thing that goes through my mind when I see a card like this is it's a darn shame it can't talk. ;)

Nice scan.

For those interested in buying raw....... but dont know the E145-2 cards.

You can see in the scan the texture of the card stock. it is a rough textured thin brittle construction like paper. The reprints are on a semi glossy smooth surface flimsy modern stock. Also note on the 1915 cards (E145-2) the back of all authentic cards are ALWAYS printed upside down.... easily seen because of the unique corner damage on this card. 1914 cards are printed right side up. (1914 say "144 pictures", 1915 say "176 pictures")

I love cards in this condition, great eye appeal and shows its 95+ years of love ...........rather than being lost in some book for 95 years like a NRMT+ example :)

GREAT information as always, fkw! Thanks a lot. I wasn't sure how to tell the difference between the two years...when I bought it, it was listed as a 1915 but I wasn't sure how you could tell otherwise. I couldn't believe how thin these were though!

pghbuccos - Yeah, Dave definitely getting this one slabbed because of how thin it is. Good to hear the anti-glare lenses work well. I was cheap and didn't want to spend $300+ on a new pair of glasses last year so I paid $130 and I got $130 glasses for sure. A lot lesser quality. I didn't have anti glare on my first pair that I paid $300+ and it never really bothered me.

69MetsFan - Thanks! I had to laugh thinking "what if" vintage cards could talk....I am sure they would have some great stories to tell.

autorook - I was very careful with it, I swear. :) I always take raw cards out of any cases for scanning purposes to get the best results, as I currently use an all-in-one. It is now safe and sound in a penny sleeve, toploader, and team bag. :geek:

joey12508 - Hey, that's a pretty nice thing to say...for a Yankee fan. ;) Hard not to appreciate pre-war vintage cards though...thanks!

Loving the old catcher's gear artwork.

Nice pick-up.

I do as well, catching pose cards are awesome. I was a bit disappointed at first, because I really wanted the Bill Carrigan instead (shown below). Once I got the Cady in hand I changed my mindset. :) (Still want the Carrigan though, because I really like him as a player/manager)

I thought the thread was going to be about a recent discovery I made. We got a bunch of kid movies from a friend, her child has outgrown them. One of the movies is this super old skool (60's or so) sing along cartoon. They sing "Take me out to the ball game" and have several verses I had never heard before. I also discovered that I've been singing it wrong the whole time. I always thought it was peanuts and Cracker Jacks, but they just say CRACKER JACK. So you see why your title made me believe you had made this same discovery. :D

Nelly Kelly love baseball games,
Knew the players, knew all their names,
You could see her there ev'ry day,
Shout "Hurray," when they'd play.
Her boy friend by the name of Joe
Said, "To Coney Isle, dear, let's go,"
Then Nelly started to fret and pout,
And to him I heard her shout.

"Take me out to the ball game,
Take me out with the crowd.
Buy me some peanuts and cracker jack,
I don't care if I never get back,
Let me root, root, root for the home team,
If they don't win it's a shame.
For it's one, two, three strikes, you're out,
At the old ball game."

Nelly Kelly was sure some fan,
She would root just like any man,
Told the umpire he was wrong,
All along, good and strong.
When the score was just two to two,
Nelly Kelly knew what to do,
Just to cheer up the boys she knew,
She made the gang sing this song.

"Take me out to the ball game...."

I just learned a whole bunch more about it, this is the second version which Jack Norworth wrote in 1927. The original version, written in 1908, was about a girl named Katie Casey. http://www.baseball-almanac.com/poetry/po_stmo.shtml

Oh yeah... very cool card!
