Contenders or SP Authentic?

I know nothing about hockey cards, except UD series 1 and series 2 are the staple.

Between SP Authentic (tried and true) vs Contenders (new kid on the block and a hit in other sports), which is going to be more sought after??? I did SP Authentic last year and had fun, but man....Contenders in Football looks pretty amazing. I'm curious how it's going to translate to Hockey.

I'd like to buy a few boxes, but I can't make up my mind.

I just bought a box of SP Authentic hockey and Contenders football about a week ago. The SPA kicked Contenders' butt on the fun factor, as well as value.

However, if you get Contenders right when it comes out, you have a better resale value on your pulls since they'll be "fresh on the market hot".

If you're getting a few boxes, why not mix it up between the two to get the best of both?

I've stopped spreading out my purchases. I like to focus on one product now as I feel I get a better odds to hit something good. It also helps when trying to make sets and so forth. I'd really like to buy a case, but that's not going to happen.

With what I've seen from SP Authentic and what's coming with Contenders, I'm forced to lean toward Contenders. I really think Contenders will have the better resale value and hold it's value longer.

The 14k gold's will be Mammoth and so will the 1/1 Championship parallels both of which do not exist in SPA, in fact the lowest serial numbered RC Auto's in SPA are /100.

I know Contenders has some HUMONGOUS pulls possible, but I think I'd stay with SPA.

I really dig the Holos and Die-Cuts, but it's really the auto Patches that stretch my pants...

From what Tracy told me it started shipping last Monday and was expected to be live on Wednesday. Can't wait! My LCS said they'll have it this weekend.

Sick Lemieux auto. The Great Outdoor set is cool along with against the glass set. But looks like a bunch of guys didn't return autos so Panini is stuck again with a boatload of redemptions.

So far, it looks like 4-5 rookies and a couple others. Chara, Ryan, and one of the Classic Tickets are redemptions I've seen so far.

I'd love to see a hockey version of Elite Extra Edition.

Of course, the product I'd kill for is Bowman Chrome and Bowman Draft. I'd rather bust a case of 2011 Bowman NHL Draft than have sex with Olivia Munn.

I think most people would just be okay with the Olivia Munn part...who needs cards.
