So been without power since 11:30pm last Friday. But lucky us we are on vacation and enjoying oc, MD. Left last Saturday around 4pm.

Contest is simple. Be the closest to guess how much our food shopping total will be when we get home to replenish the fridge and freezer of everything we have to throw away when we get home.

$0000000.00. Good luck

I'm very sorry to hear you lost everything in your refrig/freezer. Maybe your insurance can help out minus the deductible, if any. Good time to be on vacation though.

What stores are you shopping at?

I'm sure I speak for all of us... we're truly sorry that you and your area have had to suffer through this.

My parents were without power for 12 days following Hurricane Charley... and were taking care of my then (now deceased) 84-year old grandfather at the time, too. You know, once we all go off the grid and use hydrogen fuel cells for base electric power, this would never happen. It probably won't happen in my lifetime, but during the lifetime of the next generation, I could see individual homes powered by a "personal fuel cell"... just like every home just about has a personal computer (if not several) or individual A/C units.

*** You are referring to a derecho. They will become more and more common during our lifetime as the phenomenon is predicted to be part of the global climate change.
