After purchasing the 2004 Fleer Authentix Ticket to the Majors Club Box /25 in late 2010, I waited until today to be able to finally knock one of the remaining 8 non-1/1 cards off my list, none of which I had ever seen.

About a week ago, metallicalex777 mentioned a site called worthpoint.com, which tracks completed eBay sales. Digging through the 1,500 or so Jonny Gomes items they have, I found one of the 8 cards, which sold back in August 2010. Worthpoint only lists the title, description, main photo and (if you subscribe) price, however, so I had no idea who the buyer or seller was. Googling part of the generic description ("FROM SMOKE/PET FREE HOME AND ARE HANDLED WITH CARE!") gave me another card site, where a user was using the same description for a different card. Looked up the username on eBay, hoping he used the same one, and dug through his feedback to find just the card I was looking for. Worked out a deal with the buyer the next day, and received it in the mail today.

Really glad that I lucked out with all that digging.

The remaining 7:

2002 Just Prospects Prototypes JPP17
2004 Skybox Autographics Prospects Endorsed Dual AJJG Auto (just the redemption card would be fine!)
2004 Skybox LE Artist Proof 124 /50
2005 Upper Deck Platinum 412 /5
2006 Bowman Originals 2004 Bowman Chrome Refractors 501 /2 Auto
2006 Upper Deck Special FX Blue 443
2007 Fleer Autographics AU-GO Auto

I'd bet that two of them weren't produced (the dual auto and the Fleer Autographics), so realistically I'm probably looking for 5 cards, plus a redemption.

Awesome work. I'm in a similar spot with my Bucky Jacobsen player collection. Adding 1 card every 6-12 months now.

Awesome!
As a player collector myself, I have two player collections that I haven't added a single card in over 2 years.....
I am down to needing less than 10 cards for my Rob Dibble collection and less than 20 cards for my Dave Kingman collection.
Someday.....

You can thank my good buddy, and fellow FCBer, Mike (aka alwayson22) for detailing this search method for us a while back. He helped a ton of player/set collectors by doing so

Congrats on the addition

That is some real dedication and detective work. One question though, how do you mantain your interest with such big gaps in between pick ups?

Thanks andrewHRjones!

Josh, just took a list at your Jacobsen wantlist, and we really are in the same place. Crazy that almost all the missing ones are from 2005, too. How many are you missing for your other collections?

Klute, your lists are crazy. So many 1/1s. It looks like you're only missing a couple cards from their playing years, though, which is really cool.

muskiesfan, thanks! That was a pretty good feeling when it finally came in the mail.

Keyser Soze, yeah, that site is great.

hofmichael, there are a lot of other cards I've picked up in the meantime. Gomes has averaged a couple dozen cards per year for the past few years, and I've picked up all of those that I can find. I've also purchased a handful of 1/1s from previous years, such as the 2004 Topps Traded blue, which I just found last week. I've taken to collecting a second set of Jonny Gomes cards, and also going after HR and HBP tickets, as well as game used items. Additionally, I have player collections of Joey Gomes and Matt Diaz, although those are pretty much stagnant; missing around half a dozen cards for each, and I add to those collections even more infrequently than I add to the Jonny Gomes one. In the scheme of things, I probably purchase half a dozen to a dozen cards a month at this point. That's a pretty good number for me, since I have other things going on and priorities to attend to as well.

Just for the heck of it, here are the other cards from the set:

Erstad - quite a bit... maybe 300-400.
Murray - about 200
Clark - not entirely sure was under 100 for a while

The Bucky's seem like they should be easier to find. Those tougher cards (/10, /25 etc) seem to pop more often than the /99 stuff for whatever reason. I'm wondering if a few even exist!

Was Gomes in that Playoff Prestige set?

Awesome find! Like many player collectors on here I too know the feeling of endless waiting. Makes you appreciate and value those cards that took forever to find even more!

Congrats on the pickup, I can only imagine how good it must feel after waiting so long!
Worthpoint really is a life saver, I've added about a dozen cards to my collection through that, I can't thank alwayson22 enough for that idea.
