Griffey or Pujols?

The question is not who is better now, it's a question of who will wind up a better player.

My money's on Pujols.

Ultimately in the end, Griffey is arguably the best player of the 90's and Pujols will end up being the best player of the 00's.

I have to agree it's all about staying healthy. There are quite a few players that would be up there in the numbers if it wasn't for injuries, hell look at Frank Thomas I believe he would have gotten to 500 before the '07 season & Bo Jackson without the damn hip injury theres no telling what kind of #'s he would of had put up.

I voted for Griffey because he's my all-time favorite. I don't think you can compare the two because of the positions they play. They're both great. Pujols will be the better hitter when it's all said and done, IMO. Griffey however will have been the better player.

With no doubt, Pujols will end up being the better player. Pujols is the best hitter since Ted Williams. The final career stats on Pujols should be pretty amazing when it's all said and done.

P.S. For anyone to knock Pujols on speed, they must not watch him play. He is pretty darn quick when he turns it on, and is very smart as a base runner.

They are extremely close. Pujols has the higher BA and greater OBP but what Griffey did in the outfield to compliment his bat rivals Willie Mays. Nuff said.

I voted for Pujols though. Guy is literally a freak of nature.

In their primes, I'd take Griffey. Griffey in his prime had more power and was more of a RBI machine. Pujols is probably the better hitter (higher batting average, less strikeouts) but in my opinion, for a slugger, OPS and HR/AB, RBI/AB, and RUNS/AB are more important statistics.

The biggest difference is in their defense. Pujols is no slouch but Griffey was one of the greatest centerfielders to play the game.

Griffey looked like a lock for greatness and 756 HR's and he tailed off massively. It will be interesting to see what happens with Pujols and his injuries.

Honestly Griff is my favorite all time fav player always will be unfortunately his hard work and hard play led to his injuries if healthy i truly believe he would be the all time hime run leader no DOUBT!!!

I'll have to disagree that Griffey had more power than Pujols. Pujols hits homers one handed to opposite field! I'm not knocking Griffey but if Pujols could manage to stay healthy (and get any protection at all) he could put up some freakish statistics.

Interesting side note, when Griffey first came up I couldn't stand him! I thought he was brash and arrogant. Looking back now I realize how tame he was. I now watch embarrassments to the game like Manny and I really appreciate Griffey's talent.

You might wanna go back and review those stats, and you will see Pujols has trumped Griffey in almost all of those categories you mentioned.

Also, you must not watch Pujols play, if you think Griffey had more power in his prime, than Albert does. Pujols clearly has more power than Griffey did in his prime. And as another poster mentioned, Pujols hits many of his out to the opposite field one handed. Griffey was/is a pull hitter for the most part. Pujols uses the entire field, because he is a more complete hitter than Griffey ever was.

Pujols is by far the better hitter, and the batting averages are not even close, even if you take Griffey's best batting averages in his prime. Griffey never hit .330 or higher, and only topped .320 twice. Pujols has already batted .330 or better (5) times. He has hit over .350 (2) times.
