Enrique Rojas of ESPN Deportes reports that Hanley Ramirez does not want to play third base and wants to be traded if he can't play shortstop.
The Marlins seem to be under the assumption that Ramirez will be a good soldier and move to the hot corner, but it might not be that simple. President of baseball operations Larry Beinfest has given no indication that he's planning to deal the shortstop, but it sounds like Hanley might force his way out. Stay tuned.

Welcome Hanley to the Milwaukee Brewers!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Not willing. It would take Greinke which is too much in my opinion.

Am I wrong or does this have the Red Sox all over it?

Redsox need a legit SS, trade Boegarts, Ranaudo, and Brandon Jacobs.

I sure hope its either the Brewers or Red Sox. Yes trade any of those prospects for him, even Jose Iggy would be fine in my opinion. Hanley is a superstar

Hanley is one of two baseball players that I have absolutely zero respect for (the other being Nyjer Morgan). He doesn't hustle, he doesn't play for the team. He plays for himself and that's it. All that tells me is he isn't a true competitor. Wouldn't you be HAPPY that your team was finally shelling out some money to bring in players to help you win? He clearly only cares about himself.

The sad part is that the Marlins management has babied him and let's him get away with it. Perhaps the saddest thing I've ever seen is when they sent Morrison to Triple-A in the middle of a strong season, presumably because he called Hanley out for not hustling and for being selfish. What kind of message does that send, when someone steps up and tries to be a leader (when supposedly your best player isn't) and gets penalized for doing so? It's idiotic, and as a closet Marlins fan, it makes me sick.

I'd love to see him out the door. It's exciting to think about what kind of lineup they could end up with, but if he doesn't want to accept his role, then send him somewhere else and make a World Series run without him.

Fredi Gonzalez lost his job over Hanley not wanting to hustle. Sorta makes you wonder who is actually pulling the strings in Miami

No logan morrison got sent down because he was tweeting about complaining that the marlins didn't attend his fundraiser. Even skipped a team event in protest. He was sent down for being insubordinate not for criticizing him.

I knew about his fundraiser comments and maybe I'm just remembering a rumor from the time, but I thought he said something specifically about Hanley as well?

But regardless of the Morrison situation, I still maintain my stance that Hanley is among the most selfish players in baseball, and it's too bad. This play stands out as the best and most memorable moment of his bad attitude:

Jeter plays hard, has a great attitude, and respects the game of baseball. He also won three gold gloves in a row starting the year ARod joined the Yankees. Different situation.

Why can't Reyes switch to 3rd? Hanley is the incumbent

So obviously I'm a Hanley fan, and even I can't defend his attitude in a lot of situations. The above is a very good point though. Why is Hanley the bad guy when his team went out and decided they wanted to spend money on someone that plays his position, presumably without consulting him or discussing the position change first? Isn't that a slap in the face to a star player, even if he is coming off a down year? Why isn't Reyes be asked to switch to 2nd or 3rd? Would he have signed there if they said they wanted him to play 2nd, and if not would he be a jerk?

I agree that it shouldn't necessarily be Hanley who moves, but one of the two of them is going to have to put their ego aside and put the team first.

Just playing devils advocate but fun fact since you posted it the only reason Jeter won those 3 gg was because Arod moved to third and Nomar went to the NL

Because Hanley Ramirez is one of the worst SS in baseball.

Hanley will stay put and fall in place in the end. Ozzie and Pujols will convince him.

Not arguing that ARod was probably the better defender at the time, but just saying that Jeter must have been playing at a pretty high level himself to win three straight.
