Hey there so I bought a Mickey Online and I needed some autograph opinions.Seller guarantees it will pass *** certification. This is the scan provided he says he bought multiples and is sending me one but says they all look the same.

To me it looks legit but what do I know. I've asked the seller for a scan of the one he's sending me I'll update if he does. Looking for some thoughts and opinions on its authenticity. BTW its a 5x7 signed photo
This is the auction.

I say this everytime a "what do you think" post comes up about a Mantle auto, and they are plenty...

NO ONE here or anywhere can answer that for you. The MASTERS of forgery have been doing him for 20+ years and some of them are PERFECT. Non detectable, not to anyone! Now, some forgeries are bad or off enough to not pass inspection but a MASSIVE ammount are out there simply undectable. Ultimatly, it's up to the buyer to understand this and realise with Mantle, as well as a few others, it's no gaurentee even when certified.

It looks like a good copy to me though! :)

It's simply not true, that a person cannot detect a Mantle forgery. Even the best Mantle forgeries are not all that close, if you know what you are looking for.

Righteousmike,

That Mantle you purchased is a forgery. I guarantee you that it will not pass PSA/DNA or JSA (James Spence), but it might very well pass ***, since they do like to pass tons of Mantle forgeries.

That'd be my guess why the seller told him that it'd pass ***... *** has lost a lot of credibility.

I dont know if its real, but you have no reason to worry, even if its not he gave a money back guarantee.

The seller's description does not make any sense:

<<I bought several of these for myself and got them all authenticated by *** in person at the Chicago Sun Times show this last week. I offer a money back guarentee that *** will pass this autograph!!! Good luck and feel free to ask any questions!>>

If he got them "all" authenticated by ***, at the Chicago show, then wouldn't yours be authenticated by *** as well, unless he is just blowing smoke?? Either way, the one you posted a pic of is a forgery. I guarantee it.

So should I just tell the seller to refund my money now?, I'd rather keep the money and put it towards a real Mantle?,

You are just wasting money on a forgery, so yes, I would ask for my money back.

I'm not going to argue this but I'll simply say what you have said is simply not true. Everything I've seen, read and heard from people inside the industry leans towards what I previously said and in direct condradiction to your claim. To each his own though, and one can believe what they will..

Not only can PSA/DNA and Spence not always detect forgeries, they also cannot always detect an authentic autograph. I had a Mickey Mantle signed ball and 8 X 10 - both signed in person in the mid-80's - both were deemed "unable to authenticate" by PSA/DNA.

And yes, the "best Mantle forgeries" are indeed extremely close, if not dead on.

...but go ahead and continue to spew.

I know for a fact, because I have picked out many Mantle forgeries over the years, and I have submitted many raw Mantle sigs that I knew were legit, and I have never had one fail yet.

I try to help people with my knowledge of autographs, so that they do not get burned. I have been tested by many people, on various hobby sites, and I have always passed the test. I don't make a call on a signature, unless I know what I am talking about. I do know this end of the hobby very well, and yes, fake Mantle signatures CAN be detected if you know what you are looking for, even ones that were done by the "so-called" Mantle forgery expert, Mr. Marino.

I'm sorry that you don't know what you are talking about, but yes, Mantle forgeries can be picked out. I have never seen one that was almost "spot on", because there are certain characteristics in Mantle's sig that are nearly impossible to duplicate.

I do realize that PSA/DNA and JSA have not passed some due to being questionable, but that is because they air on the side of caution. That is a good thing. With that being said, show me a PSA OR JSA authenticated Mantle sig that is a forgery, and then you might have a case.

The single most naive comment of the day.

Congrats.

That's fine. It might hurt me if you were someone who knew more about the subject, but since you don't, I can live with your insults.

Mike,

I would just ask the seller, be decent in your request, and he might go ahead and refund you with no problems. Best of luck.

I called the statement naive, and it clearly was not an insult, it was a fact.

Now, if I called you a "complete egotistical tool" - that should be defined as an insult.
