Hi,
I just want to be sure about the condition of the card. Is the corners and the edges are in good condition? If I look at the picture, corners and edges seem rough. Maybe it's the picture. NM- Mint mean it should grade BGS 9 - 9,5.



I always post that my cards are in at least NM-MT, and I've had a couple of returns lately. I guess it's because people think Near-Mint - Mint means Mint - Gem Mint?

The joy of more and more people grading. I have backed away from a TON of deals from buyers who are clearly graders in fear of returns. My return % has gone way up the last 18 months. I don't sell beat up cards, they are always near mint or better. Everyone wants a gem......Very frustrating.

exactly - which was why i was perplexed by the mint - gem mint he made nm-m into...

I'm more annoyed by the sellers that in the item description say "the card is in very good condition". The scan doesn't show anything so I email to ask what is wrong with the card and they say nothing.
When I lowbid the card and win it, it's NRMT-MT and it's just a dumb seller not using the proper card condition term.

Sellers should use NRMT-MT, NRMT, etc. and not the english language "very good" as the actual condition VG is quite a few downgraded grades away from NRMT.

If you think you need to say something about condition, what if you just say they are pack fresh and not lock into a specific grade? I don't put a grade in my descriptions, just tell them there are no major defects and look at the picture and judge for yourself.

I think most buyers will assume NM unless otherwise specified. Luckily as a HOF gu collector I don't have this problem, unless a card is really dinged up I'm usually fine with it but I guess when it comes to other inserts it's different but I do think some people would be turned off by nothing at all mentioned about the condition.

I say the condition is from NrMt to Mint condition and leave it at that.

I always describe my stuff as "NM-MT or better" unless it isn't. I have only had a couple people ask about specific condition but if they get into what BGS would grade it as, my answer is some variation of "I don't know, I'm not a BGS grader, but I am a 30-year collector. But I'll tell you exactly what they grade it as if you send me $20 to have it graded." Some people want you to be a BGS grading screener, then argue with you if your assessment differs from theirs based on your scan, although they'll still buy it from you if you lower the price far enough. Morons.

I stopped offering the condition of the card. I put large images in and let the buyer decide if the condition is to their liking.

I have to say that's not really fair to the buyer. Sometimes there are flaws that don't show up in scans.

If I am listing a card that might be considered gradeable, I put the disclaimer that I am not a card grader and do not claim to be one. The item you are buying is as is..

I have only had 1 card come back in almost 20 years on EBAY.. He sent it back to me and I sold it higher the next auction as the player got extremely hot after that..

I don't mention anything related to condition but when someone asks about it directly or their question implies grading I just say at a minimum NM-MT and include the exact copy for what that means directly from the BGS site.

personally i don't care for grading , but you'd be surprised.....

you know all those topps weekly promos (turn back the clock in football , 50th anniversary in basketball , and rookie of the week , flashback friday , and trading card history for baseball).....as you probably know , with the exception of the 2006 baseball rookie of the week set , these cards generally have BV's between .60 and 1.50....well , i accumulated about 3500 of them and have been gradually selling them off in 5 and 10 card lots on ebay over the past 5-6 years......for each different card , i have one "sample scan" ...each listing has the following included :

The card pictured in the scan is shown as a sample of the cards in this lot . Its condition should be considered typical of the cards for sale in this listing .

While I would not guarantee any specific grade on the cards in this lot should they be submitted for grading , I would estimate that the average condition of the cards to be Near Mint or better .

i admit i'm not a professional grader , but i am known as an EXCEPTIONALLY picky collector when it comes to condition and i've already disposed of the damaged cards from these lots....these are cards that even meet MY demanding requirements , but i figured it would be better to be safe than sorry so i used the disclaimer above....Near Mint is s 7....well , lo and behold i had a guy buy about 8-10 lots one day....two weeks later i get the following feedbacks (all POSITIVE but the following comments and with 1's and 2's on the detailed ratings):

each listing was for a lot of 5 cards...i did post follow-up to all 7 feedbacks ....never got a response though...i asked if he/she had submitted them ALL and if the grades he/she CLAIMED were for ALL cards in the lot , the best , or the worst ...in ANY case , ALL of them garnered AT LEAST the near mint or better that i advertised.....

i submit the above as more evidence people don't know the grading terms AND that people will submit ANYTHING regardless of value....i mean really - 8-10 cards whose TOTAL BV was in the $15 range ? even as 9's , 9.5's , or 10's those aren't going to become priceless commodities....

I usually say NM or better. And that would cover a PSA 7 or higher.

I've seen a TON of "what would this grade if I sent it to BGS?" Emails lately - especially ones that say "I'm gonna need this to grade at least a 9 to leave positive feedback". It's gotten ridiculous - most of the cards are $2-$10 cards, and people are acting like I should guarantee a 9.5 or higher when I list. I have started to do the generic "see scan for details on condition" disclaimer in the listing, too.

I realize people want quality condition cards, but grading has turned people into over-zealous zombies....

Everytime I quickly scan past this thread the nM-MT makes me think I see my sn, haha....unfortunately that's all I have to add to this thread since I don't really sell on eBay or grade cards
