What do you think the effect would be on top players only having 1 auto as opposed to 7 different levels of autos? Would we see a lot of players selling at the Pujols rate or is Pujols just selling that high because hes the best player in baseball? If you feel strongly one way or the other make a case for it either staying the way it is now, or changing back. No, I dont have any inside info, and Im not from Bowman looking to make this actually happen. I am just wondering because I have been thinking about starting a player collection and was curious to know if prices would dramatically change if I only had to go after 1 auto. My feeling is that going back to 2001 numbering and having the 1 auto would be a lot more enjoyable from a collecting standpoint. If your a case breaker you would likely want the numbering because you would have a better shot of hitting one or two hot players you could flip for a big profit. I personally dont get very excited pulling a card numbered to /500 and knowing not only is there 500 of this players auto but theres 6 other levels all numbered differently.

Glad to see I'm not alone. Hopefully in the future they will find a way to keep the number of autos in the Chrome products down for each player.

For this to work, they'd either have to drastically cut production, make a much larger auto CL, or make them much harder to pull. Either way, it should increase value of the better players by a lot.

This is right on which is why I chose option #4...it would definitely make it much easier to figure out and collect and all that and prices would definitely go up overall, but I personally like the dynamic of Chrome products the way they are right now.

Yeah, at this point it would be hard for a company whos had such a successful prospect in the past few years, to change their style. Im just afraid they will continue to make more and more parallels and pulling an auto will turn into pulling a jersey. We know how bad all that went wrong over the past few years, in that a legends jersey can be had for like $15 when they used to get in the hundreds. I know autos are different though.

Yep, for something like this to happen, it would mean a huge change. The most likely effect would be to maybe triple the auto CL and make them maybe 1 per case? That's just a rough guess, I haven't broken down the numbers. I did figure out for things to stay the same, there would only be 375 boxes for 9000 total autos, with 18 different players. A few big breakers do more than that by themselves.

Wow, I didnt realize that. I dont have a Beckett in front of me, or I would look....were the 2001 Chrome autos that hard to pull? For some reason I thought you could hit multiple autos/case. Even if that is the case, wouldnt that dramatically raise interest in Bowman Chrome? A guy like Posey has a ton of different autos in a product like "Threads" right? So, for an already popular product, if he had the least amount of autos in that, prices for Chrome could start really low giving people a chance to invest, making not getting a major auto not feel as bad, and if you do hit one, jackpot instead of seeing 80% of the players autos be worth nothing in 5 years. Even a bad auto could be a big hit in a product that makes autos tough pulls again (see: Ron Davenport, right?)

Found my old Beckett and it looks like Chromes in 01 were 1:147 packs. I assume that must have been 1:case but dont know how many boxes/packs they had that year.
