I was just thinking to myself how much this hobby is built on hype. How the excitement of a player possibly becoming the next HOF talent fuels people to go to excessive lengths to secure their favorite players. Cases like Abreu always interest me because they throw a bit of a curve to the notion that projecting a player to have a long and substantial career and accumulate important numbers is the reason why we get excited about young players. The fact that he's already 27 and the chances are good that even with a number of elite seasons he will not likely put together a HOF resume and watching his cards explode just makes me curious.
What do you guys think Abreu will become? Has anybody, aside from Ichiro, ever come onto the scene of the MLB and put together a HOF career after 25 not counting guys like Paige and Robinson and the race barrier guys?
Is anybody out there investing in Abreu? If so, for what reason? I'm curious to learn more.
