Hey guys, I've been just getting back into the hobby and I've been out for about two years. I was wondering what are the best cards to get for 2009/2010? I've been looking for Exquisite and SP Authentic but I don't seem to be seeing anything from those products.

Upper Deck lost their hoops license before last year, and Donruss/Panini is the exclusive card maker for 2009/10. Topps made a Topps/Topps Chrome set before the license expired but the rookies all were headshots without logos, etc.

I didn't do any products myself mostly 'cuz I wanted some Steph Currys and his price never came down like I thought it would. I do like the look of this year's stuff myself and will get back into it.

Panini's site has some previews to check out.

Good luck!

The List above is probably spot on. National Treasures are by far the nicest rookie cards.
Crown Royale are great too with the die-cut design and on-card auto's.

Most of the other Panini releases seem to be way undervalued, so if you're picking up singles you can get a ton of cards dirt cheap. If there's any chance you collected football prior - many of the Panini sets parallel the Donruss football releases.
Some other notables - Classics, Limited, Contenders, Timeless Treasures

Crown Royale is great, but definitely on the singles end and not busting boxes. Pulling an Evans RC just about covers half the box price, and he's one of 40 rookies in the product and is a short print compared to the others.

They look nice but they are stickers.

Depends on your personal preference in regards to stickers. If you like them, then sure. If you don't like them, then no.

I love your sig. ;)
As far as the hierarchy of best auto'd cards, I wouldn't consider Court Kings towards the top as far as value (being numbered to 645 for the RCs doesn't help), but they sure do look awesome in person.

Thanks, Teague definitely has all of the potential in the world, Mike Bibby just needs to find a new home.

Just want to piggy back this question. I'm a Wizards fan and I want to start collecting John Wall stuff. For all the known products coming out this year, which ones will hold their value.

I like Prestige for football, but I don't know how they do in Basketball. I also like Elite in football as well. Any recommendations?

You'll be looking for the high ticket items that will be out around this time next year. National Treasures and the like

It's probably an impossible question to answer - since this past year was the first year Panini made basketball there is really no track record to go on regarding maintaining value. I think others - like myself - have simply used the football releases as a measuring stick for the b-ball releases, but it is still just speculation.

Other than National Treasures - at least from what I saw last year, much of the rookie stuff fell in and around the same price range, regardless of product and price point. So other than NT - it's as good an idea as any, to go with the name brands that have been established in other sports.....simply because they should continue to be made. Other than that - the best bet (if you can afford it) - is to focus on low-print run stuff. It's the higher #'d cards that tend to sell highest right out of the gate and then settle in or decline over time - the lower #'d stuff will always carry a premium and has the greatest potential.
