Read this and it was surprising to me--still-- to see how badly parents ruin the sports their kids play in.

It does raise questions though.

Would you keep playing after youre up 50-0, or would you just spike the ball every play and embarass the opponents even more?

Personally, blowouts are part of sports, and losing is part of life. it all depends on how you handle it

It's a part of the game and you should just play until the end! I remember a couple years back another team in Northern Arizona won like 70-0.

Obviously, this is all personal prefrence as to what one would like to see in this type of situation, but I would rather see the game called. My ruling would be that if a team is up by 50 or more at any given quarter end, the game can be called by the losing team. I'd call this the 'parent' rule, as I'm sure most parents would not like to see the ambush of there kid(s) continue on after a 50 - 0 pummeling at any point..

Just my 2...

In a junior high basketball game I scored 75 points and we won 105-13. And we played 7 minute quarters. It was pretty crazy. The parents were laughing on both sides.

I remember when I was completely crushed in a game of Tecmo Super Bowl. I lost 55-3. I kicked a field goal on first down after a really good run back from a kickoff.

Keep playing. Game time is the only time to "practice" game time situations, on both team's parts. The winning team can put in 2nd and 3rd stringers to get them game time experience while the losing team can keep their starters in (if they chose) and practice offensive plays or new defensive schemes that you just can't practice in scrimmages or normal daily practices. There's lots to be gained by going head-to-head vs. an opponent.

I would keep my first team in but I wouldn't stop there. Going for it on 4th down, onside kicks, going for two after every score

The losing team needs to eventually be taught that life isn't fair. Better to be taught at a young age in a meaningless high school football game instead of when they're 55 and see their retirement AIG stock plummet to nothing while AIG files for bancruptcy as their CEO is giving away millions of dollars to himself and his cronies

stopping the game wouldnt be an option. that is the ultimate insult to a team already losing at least let them finish. plus why teach the kids that when things get out of hand its ok to quit? now dont get me wrong i wouldnt be running flea flickers and the like. allow the kids on the losing end to find some moral victories and let them find some things they can build on.

Agreed I wouldn't even consider stopping the game unless the other team ran out of healthy players.

It wasn't that bad, but I was on a team on the losing end of many lopsided scores. When I was in grade school our high school football team dominated for 10 years with one team sending 8 players to play D1 football. The backups were much better than most other teams starters.

Well, when I got to highschool we were bad. My junior year we went 0-9. The other teams would not put in their backups. They wanted to run up the score on us to get back at our coach.

This actually reminds me of my junior little league days (15-16 year olds), we beat a team 24-0 in the first game - I went 6-6 and I wasn't much of a hitter - and in the second game of the double header they walked off the field with us ahead 14-0 after two - shortest no hitter of my life on the mound.

Keep playing, ya never know the over/under on these games and its just not fair to the betting public call the games. It's also up to the defense to stop the offense and obviously they didn't so maybe they shouldn't schedule teams that good and play teams that are closer to their level IMO.

Kid's high school football team went up 42-0 by halftime last week, and the second half was played with a running clock, with the 2nd and 3rd string, and with no passes thrown in the 2nd half. Second half took about a half hour total, final score 49-0. Opposition never crossed midfield, but they never gave up. Eight possessions for the game, 7 TD's, 1 kneel down to end the game.

As a college coach, we would never purposely run the score up (basketball that is, but i think i speak for other sports too). Now, if we put our second and third string in, and continued on this pace.....well what can we really do? There's nobody else to play, I am already playing my worst guys. it isnt our fault you cant play with the third string.....HOWEVER, I would not let the score get that lopsided. Pass the ball away after running the shot clock down, taking no shots, just a shot clock penalty or turnover. I would think the same goes forfootball....kneel the ball, keeping the clock running. Punt it away, play defense like normal, just change the offensive strategy. Winning 91-0 does nothing for either team....it really doesnt. Sure it's something to talk about, but what did anyone on the winning team learn to do better?
