That's a high number but as a fan I'm so happy to see him stay in Seattle. Looks like he's officially the new face of the organization.

NICE! Good to see a team going out on a limb with a Latino. Very risky, but he's a hell of a pitcher

About time. Glad they got it done. Losing Felix would have been a dagger in the back of every single Mariners fan.

holy crap that's big money

Crazy money. After the latest player busts I thought those kind of numbers were gone.

What's even crazier is that, if he stays durable and dominant that he could get a 4-5 year contract worth $30 million a year or more when this one is done. He'll only be 33-34 when this one expires.

With the new field dimensions hopefully they can get Felix some much needed run support.

He may also face the Astros 4 times!!!
1/5 of a 20 win season could come against Houston

;)

Agreed! I would have cancelled my season tickets if they traded him or let him walk because they were being cheap. I'm very happy this contract got done and now we know he'll be here for quite awhile, if not his whole career.

I'm always nervous about giving pitchers big money... but this is insane money. Best of luck to them.

The guy loves his city and his team, and would have probably topped 200 million on the open market. Really cool to see that he will be in Seattle long term. Guess David Price will be the next pitcher to get a huge deal...

I didnt think we'd see contracts hit huge numbers like this anymore.

Alot of money to commit to someone.

He could stay the King he is, or end up the next Zito.

Hopefully it's the former.

I guess it's a lock now for Kershaw to get 200m.

But this is the guy you give that money to. Still very very young, proven ace, no injury history, homegrown, contract through the prime years. It's going to look cheap in 3 years.

This is one of those threads we should revisit in a few years. (Good idea to have a separate board for stuff to revisit long-term??)

And when he turns out to be Johan Santana redux in a couple years, everybody will be talking about how irresponsibly stupid this contract is.
