I am planning on giving away a large lot of my cards. There is going to be a mix of all sports. This will be my biggest giveaway I have done and the sv will be 500 plus on the low end. What do you guys think the best approach should be. The cards have been sitting in a box from my breaks and would like them to go to a collector that will enjoy them and might be going through tough times. Thanks.

Wow, first off that is an awesome gesture. Second, I am not sure how you would do it, but I hope someday I am able to have a giveway like this. Total inspiration man. Much respect!

Best of luck!

Thanks for the info. I was hoping to just send them all to a collector but understand that they will not want everything. I do not have a problem if they sell them if it is necessary. Just hoping for some opinions. Maybe someone here knows someone that could really use the cards to sell and help there family out.

I should say that these are higher end cards and not a bunch of 5 dollar ones. I would really like them to go to a member here that might be experiencing tough times. Thanks.

If you decide to break it up I'd be interested in any phillies or Kyle drabek stuff.

Re: Huge giveaway contest.

How about this?

Have members nominate other "tough luck" members to you via pm.

They can explain why they believe this person deserves the lot, then you can pick.

OR

YOu can narrow it down to 4-5 and do a random.

Just an idea

Awesome generosity.

Re: Huge giveaway contest.

Break the box up into 10 lots, take them to the nearest Fire Station. The Marine Corps will pick them up for "Toys For Tots"
Make 10 kids happy. Then I will do the same here in Houston.

These are cards that would really be able to help a family out. I would be nervous that I would donate them and the family would be taken advantage of given the lack of knowledge of the price. I appreciate the advice and you offering to be very caring as well.

One other thing. This lot is not many cards at all. Thanks.

Re: Huge giveaway contest.

Great gesture sir! :D

IMO, the nomination idea is a good idea. Have others send you PMs and then decide whomever you feel comfortable with, taking into account Board Presence, quality of posts, etc.

Also, I'd break into $100 (or so) lots so that you have much better odds of it being appreciated by as many as Possible.

And I ask Bossman to "Sticky" it at the Top of the pages for awhile...

Re: Huge giveaway contest.

Toys for tots or the fire station are great ideas, and I fully support donating to both.

But...and there is always a but... if these are high end cards as you say, you will get more mileage by having the money donated instead of the cards. They can always do with money than with items (they get buying discounts, know what they need etc.)

Find a seller on here that you trust and liquidate them via ebay or whatever and have the money donated. Obviously there are tax implications and fees, so the seller will have to keep some of the $, but I am sure there are people on here that could do this.

Alternatively, do an outright sale of the collection and donate the money yourself to the charity of your choosing.

No matter what you do, thank you for thinking of others!

Re: Looking to give some nice cards away to members.

I am really hoping for some pm's on those members they feel could use the cards. I appreciate the pm's I have received from members and the good they do and will be willing to help in some way. Please send me a pm if you think someone could use these cards. Thanks.

I say you have someone list them all on eBay, with 100% funds going to charity. When you really think about it, there are people who have it way worse than any of us. I would even throw in some cards to this idea!

That is a great idea as well. I will Be willing to send these cards to a cause like that and it is a great idea. I just wanted to check here first as I love reading this forum and wanted to give to a member in need if there is one.

Is there someone that would sell the cards and put the funds towards charity? I would give a bunch of cards if we could do the epilepsy foundation of Minnesota. I have two kids that both have epilepsy and delays in which I would love to contribute.

Sounds good to me. I would be willing to contribute some cards as well. I think we could move some of our inventory, and help some kids at the same time. Count me in!

Thank you everyone for your feedback. A member was very generous in offering to sell the cards and have the money going to our charities. This is such a great forum and am happy to be a part of.
